no I haven't had any issues let the glow of the laptop prevail although I would invest in a back lit keyboard makes life a little easier. Been in the business for thirty years still got a good ten to fifteen years in me

Added 12v blue led strip lighting to flight cases, got fed up with using goosenecks.
 
Xavierrrrr, have you ever been to a club?

They're never completely dark, for safety reasons. People need to see where they're going, staff need to see customers and vice versa. The light is lower than a typical room in your home, but you can still see enough to DJ.
 
You cannot learn everything there is to DJ-ing from a message board. Get offline for a bit and go see things yourself...make friends with a DJ and try to get one to let you stand around and watch...maybe even start out being a roadie (help unload, set up, breakdown equipment, load the trailer, etc).

Seriously...in 1995 that's what I did. I made friends with a local DJ and he showed me the ropes...next thing you know I am a part of his company being paid travel to school dances, wedding receptions, private parties, clubs, etc then next thing you know I am mixing the music at these events.

The most important part you will learn from a professional is learning how to "read the crowd"...that is figuring out what songs they want without them having to tell you! You CANNOT learn that on a message board! Believe me...it is NOT 100% about you playing only the songs you like. You play only the songs that you like...you won't be DJing making a living at it for long time because it is always about the crowd and what they like.

Now enough of the questions not related to VDJ...get out there and learn DJing, clubs, etc in the real world! You can do it! Be sure to come back to share your experiences with us as we would like to hear how you have progressed.
 
LED tape what a WONDERFUL invention Tayla I have some for when I build my façade was thinking hitting the legs of the tripods to for safety might be a cool look
 
I have a little powerful LED that clips to the top of my laptop and lights the controller. Backlit keyboard is a godsend too ....

The thing in my opinion is using only ONE setup!!

I have 3 setups, 2 turntables and a mixer, 2 Denon decks with a mixer and my Mixdeck Quad setup. I have spent countless amounts of hours using these and I really think I could use them in total darkness.

Master the equipment you use and you should never really have a problem........ Again this is all my opinion.
 
If Stevie Wonder can play in the dark, I can too.
 
Yeah, but those shades were way to dark for anybody to see out of, no wonder he kept tripping over stuff.

My friend bought a Rane62 today and we used it in a really dark club. 1st time I used it with Serato. Since I never used it before it sucked and every other DJ that used it too. always bring some sort of clip on light.

Some of the DJ booths I've played at are very well lit. They wanted the DJ Highlighted. Some booths I've played at I brought a clip on LED light, plus the lights on my gear was plenty. And as someone has said, using the same gear over an over is the key, after a while you don't need to look. I also always carry a flashlight with me for emergencies and being able to see wiring and such.

No, my wife only comes out of her oxygenated coffin once a year!
