all videos, and not a single hiccup, blip, or any issue what so ever. went from 10pm until 6am. i kept my laptop on top of a usb cooler to keep things cool and everything went very smoothly.
a friend of mine had a 6 hour gig from 10 until 4 and he uses serato dj with a mac. his system crashed not once but twice during his set. good thing he had his ipod shuffle connected to his mixer for a backup or else he would have had dead air while he rebooted. i think i may have gotten him to switch from sdj to vdj now because he used to have the mindset of only playing on industry standard software (what he thinks serato is). well, that industry standard software isnt any good if its always locking up or crashing. he now believes in vdj and the stability of it.

Only if you are working in a hot venue or have a laptop that overheats (like a MacBook Pro)
I have had Sony machines since 1999 and they have good cooling so never seen the need for one.

Seconded.
Yes it varies - the heat from some laptops can get pretty extreme, but if you're confident that your particular one doesn't get hot to the touch when in constant use, then you should be OK without a cooler.
If you want to be sure though, maybe "better safe than sorry" applies - especially in a hot location.
Same principle as a condom. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

But will that only apply if the girl is hot...

I noticed my case Denon fc6000 laptop tray does not leave much room for circulation with the felt(or what ever it is) covering, i noticed it and raised my laptop with some bits of card at each end. Think i might cut the middle out of the tray allow air to come in from below. Had mine on for a good 8 hours felt fine

I have a 13" Macbook - 3x Macbooks 15" - and an Imac 21" but never had a heating problem at all.
This is whether I use VDJ, SSL, SDJ, Traktor or Rekordbox.
I noticed that the Mac internal fans turn on automatically when necessary.
But for sure, I will check on this app.
As mentioned above, you'll never know when you're gonna need it.

I've used a Bootcamped MacBook Pro for 3.5 years while using 100% video. After about 3.5 hours it would start to get unresponsive, mouse delays, typing delays, etc. After starting to use a cooling plate not had any heat issues since. I also have SMC Fan control (and it's PC equivalent) running at full speed every DJ gig.

simpler setup......
no externals or hub ......
but, you have to have a laptop to be cool , sorry Rick
8 hours? that's the pre-game warm up at a strip club
14 hour double shifts , except fri or sat when open to 5am, then it's 17.....
if multi stage you are talking after every song telling the lovely debutantes where to be and what to do
and improvising your way thru all kinds of situations.......sometimes collecting money too
and usually holding everything together singlehandedly while the so called management uhhhh what is it they do?

Hmm, Im not sure what your talking about. Its been a while since Ive installed it. Maybe it has something to do with taking over control of the fans which thats what you want it to do. I run mine on high all the time. Fans are cheaper to replace then a burnt up board, lol!
If your not comfortable installing it just hit up there site, Im sure someone can answer it for you there.

nope. we clicky-clicky and concentrate on party party.
and what they do is make money off of us dumb dumbs who work for peanuts compared to what they get. tis why I drive a Nissan the boss drives a BMW
but back to topic at hand.
we've had one heat issue in the last 7 years. air conditioners for amp room failed in the 107deg summer and the one for that also dumps air in booth - went from 68 to 95 in booth in less than 10 minutes. grabbed portable fan and took off side plate on tower and blew air in for rest of night. still never a hiccup.
bring a small portable fan and plan for the worse. they're cheap and can save yer buttocks.
