I haven't encountered this yet. I am going to guess you probably accidently downloaded or accepted with a down load what I call malicious add on ware.
Is this an ad ware blocker snap in?

Exactly!..."Synth"!!!...look on under uninstall programs and look for any suspicious named program there and uninstall it...also if you use firefox then look under plugins and extentions.I just cleaned my Alienware thursday nite as I got hit for the third time.the first time I freaked and ended up deleting the drive and doing a fresh windows install.the second time i read about it and found a advertising malware loaded as a plugin in firefox.now it was in my widows C drive.this things get in with permission so your antivirus programs wont reconize it..the effect i got this time was my youtube downloader stopped working then wierd alerts and it even showed up on plane 9 screensaver while running!!! dang crap is made to confuse you while its getting info from the system...Hope I got to you on time buddy..lol

Good "Synth"...This things can get real nasty as they keep "Growing"...you might have to delete all temporary files while in safe mode, scan full system with malwarebytes which will take time, then search again..ouch!

If anyone ever stumble's on this thread for the same reason I used malwarebytes, then superAnti-spyware then something to check for any root kits, but I can't remember it's name off the top of my head, took about four hours of no internets which was hell, but now my system is clean.
Thanks for your advice Freddie and Mike you were spot on.
