Tópico: Studio monitors for home DJ'ing (Advice needed) - Page: 1

Esta parte del tópico es antigua y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

I have a LOT of speakers but I want to neaten up my home workstation. I'm tired of using 18" powered bass cab and 15" powered tops in my house.

I am thinking I might want a pair of studio monitors on shelves to use at home to practice.

I'm NOT trying to break the bank on monitors.

Someone suggested Behringer B3031A 2-Way Active Studio Monitors but i'm kinda scared of Behringer even though all the reviews I've seen are great and the power/features seem pretty damn good for the price.

The M-Audio BX8 D2 Active Studio Monitors were also suggested but I was told that the Behringers actually sound better and have more power and features as far as "sweet spot sound.

I'm not trying to spend over $400 for a pair but I might go over that for a pair of monitors and a monitor sub.

Any suggestions?

I have the M-Audio AV-40s, they're not bad at low volumes but once you crank it up, the bass doesn't sound good. If you keep them at a reasonable level, they're ok.

I also have the Event Tuned Reference TR8 monitor speakers which are bi-amped and have 8" woofers. Those sound great and when I mixing at home, I used these vs. the M-Audio. When I need to keep it down, I'll use the M-Audio AV-40s.

Pricewise, I paid over $800 for the Events many years ago. I paid about $150 for the M-Audio AV-40s.

Cheers,

Nick

I just bought Mackie mr5mk3 fo r a little less than half that for that very purpose
U in the dmv right?
Got them at the Rockville GC
They get the job done

I started off with a pair of little Roland DM-20. I used them for a couple of months but, was not happy with the base response from them. So, I got inventive. I went to Best Buy and purchased a Yamaha sub-woofer. I was very content with the combination. If you do some leg work and, get creative, you can put together a decent system for a fair amount of coin.

To be honest, studio monitors should NOT colorize the sound. In other words please don't expect deep bass or anything like that from a studio monitor speaker and especially in high volumes. Studio monitors are designed/manufactured to be as flat as a speaker can be in order to give you the most accurate playback possible!
Just saying... ;)

That's true but, if there is not enough base signal, or mid or, high, you'll not get an accurate idea of something has been over EQ'd one way, or the other. As with all things in sound, balance is not only desired, it's required.

I am rocking a pair of these. I got them for a great price, and as you can see here, this is a great price. They also come in an 8 inch version.

I have used the powered JBL LRS2328s for a couple of years now and find them to be extremely good for the price. The 2328s produce more than enough low end wallop on there own but for the Bass hungry you can pair them up with the LSR2310 sub. Or use the smaller LSR2325s with the same LSR2310 Sub.
I use the LSR2328s without the Sub and was glad I didn't spend the extra as I don't feel they need any help at all.

I wound up getting a pair of JBL LSR308's and a KRK 10s sub.

I'M STRAIGHT FOR HOME SOUND!!!

I listened to the Yamaha 8" (Great studio monitor)
I listened to the Rokit 8" (They sounded dull)
I listened to the M Audio 8" (Damn good sound)

Then I listened to the JBL and was blown away!

The KRK 10s is a great sub.

I'm HAPPY and I won't be breaking any more dishes or glasses in the kitchen upstairs.

If you have not heard the JBL lsr308, GO HEAR THEM!
Just being some money with you as you will not want to leave the store without them!

I guess it's cool not to have grills on anymore as non of these manufactures provide them.

Monitors are different than speakers. The grills are to protect the cones on speakers. Most manufacturers assume anyone that is looking for monitors, knows better than to touch the cones of a speaker.

Yup, all kids have unending desire to see how soft a tweeter is or how far they can push it in!
