Tópico: usb sound device issue

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Hi all :)
I have been using a generic usb sound gizmo as a second soundcard on a laptop at my parents when I'm up that end of the country, it's not very often that I have used it but has always functioned when I have. This is the device in question http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181366538618?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Last night, when I set it up it only worked for a minute or two then the led light went off and windows stated ''usb device not recognised'' and from then on the thing seemed to be fried, dead, broken :( Fair enough, it only cost a couple of quid tbf but ...... today I tried it again for the craic and the same events repeated themselves, as in there was life in it for a short spell. I actually have two of these devices here and the same thing is happening to both :(

Is it possible my usb ports are killing it so to speak? Any ideas?

I have Vdj8 here but only on a laptop with one soundcard and this is my only option while I'm here for the next week.

Any help is appreciated, Thanks :)

Could be that an internal component has become intermittent. Probably heat related, ie works when cold but once it warms up it gives up. Might sound daft but try popping it in the refrigerator once it has failed or even the freezer for 5 min. If it then works then you have your answer ;-)
Most of these plugin sound adapters are so cheap that they are not worth repairing.

Before condemning the adapters the following information is worth bearing in mind.

USB ports do provide 5v power to the devices plugged in to them. It is possible that the USB power is shutting down. Most laptops have a power save function which turns off the USB power after a period of inactive time so make sure this function is not kicking in. I haven't heard of this going wrong in a way which causes damage so if there appears to be no issue with the USB power I would put it down to bad luck and go for another adaptor.

Hi Liamalone….May i suggest you to buy small controller to have some flexibility with extra line-in and line-out.

Thanks for that Daz, I've put it down to the type/quality/price of the device but the fact that it happened to two in the same fashion I'm just curious as to whether there may be a laptop fault that is 'frying' them. As for the overheating theory, I had thought that myself but disregarded it due to the length of time that they were connected before failing, it was two mins tops - probably still long enough given the quality of the device.

Thanks Cesar, I'm rarely at this location that's why I use the usb solution, it's just a 'means to an end' if I get time to mess about on Vdj here - at my own home I don't use them.

hmmm, thats odd...I just went through the same with a usb hub a week ago that i had not used in a while and not on my first 64 bit system.seems fried even after i downloaded its 64 bit drivers.so I went and got a new one...but still wondering....

It seems that You were bang on the money here buddy, a spell in the fridge breathed life into it, laptop recognised and installed it but then 20secs later I had a funeral for it - done and dusted lol

Thanks for your help :)
