I. I'm really considering about getting into the time coded vinyl thing and I'm in the dark about using that option but I was wondering can regular turntables that play normal records also play time coded records or do you need a special turntable.
2. Has anyone noticed that the sound ( when scratching ) at least on an NS7ii is not the same as a real vinyl scratch sound.
3. I have VDJ 8, but totally unsure about what hardware works with VDJ 8
4. Would time codes give a more authenticate sound to scratching versus just using the NS7ii to scratch on

No you don't need a special turntable or stylus.
The timecode records are just normal vinyl but with a "beep" recorded onto them instead of music. The turntables don't know the difference!

You should be able to find your answers here, http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/TimeCode%20Config.html

According to page 98 of the manual, VDJ 8 is compatible with "most of" the popular timecode systems. Why are they not listed? :-(
I'd imagine your best choice would be Serato vinyl, as that would be easiest to source, due to popularity.
If you go to the timecode setup area of VDJ 8 config (you need to enable inputs to get the timecode icon on the left) there is a dropdown list of all the types which are supported.

1. Regalar turntables.
2. Scratching should sound better than the NS7ii - but this could depend on the quality of your sound card, your needles, your computer and the settings within vdj.
3. I would get a sound card from Native Instruments or from Serato - these companies have dedicated timecode products so there sound cards are pretty good. The NI sound card may be cheaper but equally good as the serato cards.
4. Yes, timecode are 99.9% the same sound as real vinyl. I can usually tell by the sound if is using a controller or cd player to backspin or sometimes scratch. With timecode you really cannot distinguish vinyl from timecode vinyl on a proper set up.
