can someone please help me dj hip hop music. Im only 13 years old and have been djing for almost a month so im a beginner. I love djing and know so much about it already like all types of music, djs, equipment, and just how to dj in general cuz im really into it and watch a lot of videos and stuff. Ive made like 2 little mixes that I really like and I thought I did good on but the songs are edm songs which to me is a lot easier than doing hip hop. I have about 800-900 hip hop/r&b/rap songs that I got from a friend but for some reason I cant dj hip hop and I find it extremely difficult even though the 2 songs im trying to mix have the same exact bpm it never sounds right when I put them together. can someone please tell me what to do, what songs I should try, or even what djs I should listen to that are good examples for a beginner like me. Thanks

Mixing hip hop and rap can be quite a bit different from mixing EDM. Many times rap/hip hop tracks won't mix well with a long, blended transition, a quick cut on the drop or using effects will work better. Learning some scratching techniques can help as well. Also beat-matching on a hand-clap or cymbal instead of the bass drum can make the mix/transition much cleaner. Practice is key, keep working at it.
Pop over to http://virtualdjradio.com/live/, you can join the chat room and visit with DJs from around the world. Guys and gals that have been mixing for years and some that are just starting out, like you. Good place to listen and learn.
Good luck,
Tim
