Hey all,

Just curious what is your song of choice to open a set/start a gig?

Something old/classic

Often it's a Danish 80's song, so that won't help you much :)
But other times it can be "Stevie Wonder - Superstition" if the guests are just starting to come into the room, or "Jackson Five - Blame it on the Boogie" if the guests are already there and ready to start dancing

Ominous changes for every gig. I do a wide variety of gigs. Are you looking for a specific type of gig?

It depends from the kind of gig...

I also like to separate two "kinds" of starting song, at the warm-up, (when nobody is in the place, etc...) and when the people is ready to rock, in this second part, the first song must be (for me) a well known song for everyone, with much rythm and to invite to inmediately dance everyone.

This depends from the "hit" of the year... ;)

For the bar staff
Akinyele - Just Put It In My Mouth

Surprisingly catchy, I use it to get my levels right and I kind of like how cute female bar staff sing along (Yes I'm a pig, :-) no apologies )

As for slots other than warm up, there's too many differentials, often I'll drop the energy from the previous guy just to build it back up again, let the punters know that we've a journey to take, other times I'll keep the previous guys vibe and slowly move over to my stuff over 3 or 4 tracks.

Space - Magic fly. I am using it for years. Before it was Koto - Jabdah .-)

Let's get loud - Jennifer Lopes
That's my favourit.

Never know until I step behind the decks... scan the room, select song > press play.

I second that Tayla.
Each time, and crowd is different.
The other thing is that you're choosing a starting set, or mood, you're selecting a group of songs that sound good together ( key, beat, and energy ), and not just a single song.
I do use low energy music, and also a low volume for warming up.
Stuff like Motown, Deep House, or Ed Sheeran ( my current favourite, but it's not about what I like ).
I sometimes, for the moment, use 3 or 4 Ed Sheeran songs / remixes in compatible keys.
This may be a UK only thing.

PS starcloth looks good, as do my now black tidied leads. I added another main light as well, an Acme Mirrage. I may still have more to do, anyway in due course I will post photos to gain comments.

Cool, glad to hear... now if I could only get the wife to agree with some of my suggestions, lol!

HAHAHA I love that song!!

9/10 times I am playing Celebration by Kool & The Gang once the dance starts. I do mostly weddings and I like to play it for Christmas Parties as well. Some Times I switch over to The Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling but that would be when it's more like a hall party or something like that.

...as I rush off to get this song I've never heard!
Were human, and keep on learning.

That song would get me kicked out of almost all my venues !

It reminds me of when I did a party for the Royal Navy, and I played the Village People's In The Navy , and then Let's Have a Gang Bang.
They were not pleased.

I have put it in my comprehensive XXX locker marked handle with care.
