A while back I posted a question regarding a warning I received that some of the Content Unlimited songs were about to expire, it was a warning that showed up on my Windows startup screen. I couldn't ever tell which songs the message was referring to...
This week, I've been working on some mixes using some CU material and when I try to load the song, I get an "Error" message where the song title and info usually appears. If I connect my USB backup drive to the PC, I can "relocate missing file" and the song loads right up. Note, I haven't deleted and CU material except for poor quality downloads.
I submitted a support ticket and they said the only reason I should ever get this message is if I've deleted a song from the cache and tried to load it again, thing is, I haven't deleted the songs I'm trying to use; it seems to be about 25% of my CU library comes up with that message.
Have I missed something about the duration of "ownership" of CU material? Or is there some kind of bulk refresh of CU material I should be looking at doing?

Check in your Documents\VirtualDJ\Cache folder if the missing file is still there.
No files get deleted automatically, no matter what, and as long as you have an active subscription they should continue to play.

Yes, the files are still there, but won't load without one of the backup drives plugged in to "relocate". I backed up to two separate USB drives, both appear to have all the CU data present. I'm not gigging with my CU content, so it's not a big deal to use my backup drives, it's just a 'weirdness' I've encountered.

Can you try to use relocate and go to the cache folder (without the usb drive plugged in)

That does work, but not for every song. Is there a way to refresh the whole cache at once?

If you browse to the cache folder first, vdj's database should know about all the tracks correct location, so it should be able to find the location automatically from playlists etc... after.

I set up to do a mix this afternoon, every single CU song had an X through it, saying "audio missing" if I put the mouse over it. Still, I could restore from backup; there is a mention in the FAQ about refreshing DRM- is this something I should look to do? The instructions don't seem to jive with the current VDJ.

Where do you load the files from? A playlist, or the content unlimited item in the folder tree, or a search?
Perhaps you can try in browser options, database, remove missing files from search db to clean up the database.

I have all my CU material organized into genre based virtual folders. It still shows in the "downloaded content" portion in the CU tree, but all/most of the songs have a big red X on the left side. This is the same if I open a virtual folder or look at the downloaded content list.

I'll try your suggestions tonight, Adion and let you know if this clears things up.

Well, I removed missing items from the database as suggested. All the big red X's are gone. However, the songs once marked by an X are still only accessible via "relocate missing file" on my usb backup drives.
What would you suggest my best course of action would be now? If I just keep "relocating" each song as needed will they stay in my database or is there some other method I should use to regain the songs to my onboard database I've purchased via CU? Again, it's not an end of the world scenario, just not the kind of thing that gives me a lot of confidence.

It means that the file path stored in the virtual folder is different from the current path. Possibly after an update to a new version of windows the path to your Documents folder changed.
Normally the file size is stored in the virtual folder as well, and relocate should happen automatically if a file with the same file name and file size is found on a different location.
I'm not sure why this is not the case for you.
After doing a relocate the virtual folder should automatically have been saved though, so you should only have to do it once for each missing song in the virtual folder.
