Tópico: Beatmatching Question

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Hey All....I am brand new and still practicing with Virtual DJ8 at home. I have a Beatmatching question: When playing a track on Deck 1 at 128 bpm and Deck 2 track is waiting to be "phased" in and it is at 100 bpm, if the track on Deck 2 gets matched to track on Deck 1 at 128, it will sound fast and sped up and weird. So what does one do in this situation? Thank you!

You can use the master tempo to make the match sound better, however as an "old school" DJ I never go more than 6 bpm total between songs when mixing.

Agreed. You simply don't try and mix tracks that have such big BPM differences.

Pick a track that's within (say) 5bpm, and then you can either simply adjust the new track to the tempo of the old one, or gradually bring the playing track up (while it's playing) to match the new one. For example, meet half way - 2.5bpm increase on the playing track, 2.5bpm decrease on the new one, then gradually bump it up to its original tempo (or faster) while it plays. If you change tempo gradually enough, no one will notice.

On the other hand, you don't have to beatmatch. You could transition into the slower track some other way.

kradcliffe and groovindj - Thank you both very much for your excellent help and advice! I will put your advice to work for me and give it some practice. Thank you again!!!

Both of these suggestions are correct, why are you trying to go to such extremes? There is another option, that I use all the time. Sometimes I have to go to that extreme. My keylock is always engaged. I need to go from club to hip hop, rock or reggaeton. I'm at 128 and need to get to 95 or higher (I could go lower, but why?) So I decide on 100 bpm. I could use a transition track that's already made to go from 128 to 100. Or, I could start pitching down the 128 gradually, and during the instrumental get to 100 and bring in the reggaeton, rock or hip hop track. I do this all the time. I rarely pitch up, but can if the song allows it. Another trick is halving or doubling the bpm. You can easily mix a 128 with a 64bpm. This is how I transition the flow of the club during the night.

@user[randomnumber] there are hundreds of YouTube videos on DJ techniques. How to do this, or how to do that.

Have a look through some of ellaskins videos. He's one of the best known YouTube tutors. Another is briansredd.

Once you start looking, you'll find others listed there too.
