Tópico: Need lighting advice!

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Hey everyone,

I am in the market for new lighting for wedding and convention setups. What lightning has worked best for you as far as a good price and good quality? Any advice to someone who is fairly new to the world of setting up lighting for mobile Djing? I'd be setting this all up on my own, with no assistant, so I'm looking something that packs in the car well that isn't crazy heavy if possible. Your advice is appreciated!

LEDs are the way to go, next thing you have to decide is what your budget level is going to be, that way, the guys on here will be able to advise you better.

Check out the 4-bar/4-play combination from Chauvet.
I've been using it over two years for weddings (along with their Obey-10 DMX mixer). Love it.
Very easy to lug around (each lighting unit comes in its own case). Only bad part is the cases are not made very sturdy and fray quickly if you are not a "baby my gear" type.
I am very careful with my gear and treat the stuff with loving care-- and I'm getting frayed cases. Imagine what a rugged roadie would do. :)

Thanks so much! I really appreciate it!

That's a good combination, but I like the 4bar Flex which you can see here. It gives you the same foundation, but allows you to add up to 4 different lights on top, to give you a little more bang.

I agree! -- If I wasn't so happy with my 4-Bar 4-play combination I would get the Flex version. That was not an option (not available) at the time I made my purchase, so I'm kind of sticking with my current set-up until I decide to upgrade. But yes, I would have gotten the Flex version myself.

I go a little deeper into my light shows with trussing and dmx software. However, I have had good success with a pair of ADJ Inno Spot LED's in master - slave mode on the table with my gear. You can find them here:

Same here. I use 16 uplights around the room, a full truss set up with a Scorpion Storm laser effect, 2 moving heads, 2 scanners, and 2 moonflowers, all controlled via DMX. If it's a small event or party, then I just use a single tripod with a t-bar on the top where I'll use the 2 scanners and maybe the laser.

I know most of us can go deeper with lights, but that is not what the OP was looking for. He is trying to get the most bang for his buck, but also stated that he works alone, and it needs to fit in a car. I work alone most of the time, but I also have a van, that I can put truss in, so big and heavy is not a problem for me. The 4 bar flex will be my next purchase for the smaller events, and when they can't afford the full package. I still have a similar product that I got from CSNL, that has the option for 4 lights on top. It uses 4 floods with gels, tripod fits in the case. Yeah, it's not as modern but it's hard for me to buy new, when the old still works.

I know a couple of people who have the Gig bar and it works out great for them. Multiple effects, and very easy to set up, tear down and transport. For $400 (give or take a few dollars), it's not a bad deal for people starting out or needing something simple.

Personal experience, I use to love lights. Point is, for most mobile gigs nobody really wants (direct lights from tripods, truss or effect lights) unless they are free.

I can sell uplighting all day long. Go with what you can sell or you will quickly end up with a bunch of lights and extra work that nobody really wants.

I've got the 4-Play CL. Same thing but the pods are clear. If your looking at getting the CL I suggest keeping it away from your eye level. I have had it next to me on a few occasions and it gets to me. Much like they say florescent lights drain your energy and make you tired, this will do the same.
