Okay, maybe someone has had a similar experience and can help me...
I have switched to VDJ8 and am in the process of adapting my custom skin to the new software. I was trying out the VDJ7 sound effects, to see which of them work on VDJ8, and while testing the LOOPOUT effect, the sound got destorted and died. Now, I can't hear anything anymore. Even after rebooting the PC. VDJ shows the level output, the ESI Maya44 PCI software shows the output, but no sound comes out of the speakers. I've tried the speakers with another source, and they work fine.
Anyone any idea? (Apart from "silence is golden, and such...)
P.S. I've configured the sound as ASIO 2.0, my soundcard is internal (ESI Maya44 PCI), I'm on Windows 7 64bit, and using the latest release of VDJ 8.

check the windows Playback device (right click on the speaker in the system tray and select playback devices, then right click on the playback device and select properties) on the properties window select the levels tab and make sure it's not muted (no red circle). Check out this thread http://virtualdj.com/forums/206598/General_Discussion/Experienced_a_funny_DUH_moment.html

Thanks derwoodski, but that was not it... I've actually pretty much gone through the same motions as the guy from the post you linked. I know how he felt!!!
Anyone else any ideas for me?

Do you have another audio interface you could use (to check if the Maya is perhaps dead)?
An external USB one or maybe the computer's onboard audio?

I did, but no sound either. There is sound when I play a sound file with a mediaplayer (over the same onboard audio device)...

Can a soundcard be dead and still show output levels in its software?
(After closing and re-opening VDJ8, there is now sound when using the onboard audio device. So it's clear that the problem lies with the MAYA44 soundcard...)
Maybe it was a coincidence that I was testing sound effects and that it had nothing to do with the sound suddenly stopping...

Perhaps uninstall the Maya drivers/software, then reboot, then reinstall and try again...

Good idea, Groovin'... Just did that but alas... still no sound.

I'm sweating: just imagined this would happen during a gig!
So, does anyone know if a dead soundcard can show level output in its software?

The loopout effect is not engaged, and can you remove it from the software? Are you using any controllers? No sound from both players, gains, volume, and cross fader checked?
Mensajes Tue 19 Jan 16 @ 8:22 pm
The loopout effect is not engaged, and I already removed the effect from the souns effect folder. I'm not using any controllers, I'm on a touch screen. No sound from both plkayers. I have nop cross fader. Gain and volume levels checked. No sound via the ESI Maya44 PCI sound card. Not via ASIO, nor WASAPI. Only via the on-board audio device...

Select the Maya as the default sound card of your Computer and try to see if you get sound when using any application like Windows Media Player, winamp et.

switching to another audio device (e.g. the internal) in the VDJ audio preferences and then switching back to the Maya, then hit apply. This worked for me once.

I'm confused. Earlier you stated that you were not getting any sound. Does VDJ work with your onboard sound device?

Thank you all for reacting!
@ A Man And His Music: Over the PCI soundcard no sounds are heard, over the Mobo (i.e. on-board sound device) sounds are heard fine.
@ DJDad: VDJ8 gives no sound over the PCI soundcard, but sounds fine over the on-board sound device. The same goes for my media player in Windows.
@ Sound&Silence: You had me hoping there for a moment, but switching didn't do it for me... No sound over the Maya :(
So I guess, my Maya44 did die on me. This is the second MAYA44 card that dies in less than two years... I am wondering: Is this a coincidence, or is this a bad card, or...
CAN VIRTUALDJ KILL A SOUNDCARD?

Did you try it on a different computer?
Mensajes Wed 20 Jan 16 @ 9:08 am
Following your suggestion Adion, I just plugged the card into another computer, installed the latest drivers (the same ones I use on my deejaying computer), and to my surprise the card worked!
What does this mean?
Why would a sound card suddenly stop working on a certain computer?
Did it have something to do with trying out VDJ8 non-compatible effects after all?

Did you try WASAPI instead of ASIO for the maya?
Also, try right-clicking the sound icon in the system tray and select 'open volume mixer' while vdj is open. See if perhaps the volume of virtualdj is down by any chance.

I tried WASAPI before, and tried it again now. No sound either. Noticed a strange thing, though: WASAPI does not pass the headphones sound (no visual level output in the ESI Maya44 software), only the master. When switching back to ASIO, both channels give visual level output (but no sound)...

ERRATA:
I now DO have sound again! So please disregard my former post: I forgot to turn on the speakers (after turning them off to disconnect them - and everything else - from my DJ computer, to be able take the rack out of the carrying case and take out the sound card to test it on another computer), silly me...
SO AFTER PULLING OUT AND PUTTING BACK IN MY SOUND CARD, the damn thing is working again. That's no good for me, though. I cannot do this during a live gig. I need a solid rig. So i still need to know: WHY DID THE CARD STOP PASSING SOUND? Does anyone here have any experience or knowledge in this direction?

For some odd reason i never threw away the other ESI Maya44 PCI card, and I decided to try and put it in to see if it also magically worked again... and YES, it's working! So, it was never dead either. Now I have two soundcards that work, but that I don't trust (for live performances)!

So I'm thinking about buying the "M-Audio Delta 44", since it seems to be the most recommended sound card on the VDJ forums.
I'm still baffled about that no-sound problem, though. It cannot be the computer, since this is a different one then I used before, with the first Maya44 card...
