Have any of you guys done a gig using a generator? And if so, did you take any precautions, or use something like an isolation transformer?

I've done it twice with no issues whatsoever. Both with 2000 watt inverter generators.

Did a sweet 16 in a back yard, rental wouldn't start.
Make sure it starts before the rental crew leaves.
Also did an RV resort when a storm knocked out the power for a day.
It saved the event and got paid.
Never had a problem, done quite a few that way.

I always use my own powersupply/splitter connected to the poweroutlet they give me.
One time I had 400Volts from the generator. There was a wrong connector or something like that. I saw this on my screens and could avoid burning all my equipment/fuses.
With this powersupply I can see if the power is constant and not too much and it saves me for power peaks.
Some equipment can't handle powerchanges from generators..
