Has anyone made a skin that mimics the old title option? With no upcoming song shown.

Yes, I believe all the minimalistic skins in the addon section do that. As shown in these examples:
 
BTW the old title option is also back, only now as an addon

Currently pending approval.

This one will display the track information and album art for the first 25 seconds of the track, then disappear.
It will re-appear for the final 15 seconds.
