....and what exactly is "the software"? Which version of VirtualDJ are you trying to use?
The standard versions of VDJ 8 don't use serial numbers.

Sounds like you might be using a very old version of VirtualDJ.
Better to update to latest and greatest: https://www.virtualdj.com/download/
