I seen it's non transferable but what if the Laptop needs formatted or Drive went bad and put new one in. How will this play out?

The machine pc/laptop doesn't matter, when it says non transferable it means you can't resell the licence or give credentials to other people.
You can install vdj on a million machines if you want, no limits on home user installs , the software becomes licenced once you log in [and it has a thing that only lets 2 machines be logged in, log in on a 3rd machine and the first machine gets logged out]
