Tema: Database not accessing external hard drive.
I just downloaded Virtual DJ onto my Mac laptop recently and purchased the Audio Plan. The app works and runs fine, however it refuses to open up the folders on my external hard drive. I know the hard drive is compatible because it belongs to a friend who uses it with Virtual DJ, but for some reason on mine it refuses to display any of the files.

Things I have checked: the hard drive shows up on my desktop and I can access its files through the Mac itself; the hard drive and folders are visible on the left column in Virtual DJ; I have set the hard drive and its contents to the Database (Batch/Add DB); and I have tested the app with local music files on the laptop itself and they work fine. I just cannot get the folders in the left side column to open or appear in the database or the right side playlist column.

According to another forum thread, Virtual DJ requires permission to access certain things, so I manually added Virtual DJ into the Accessibility and Full Disk Access. It still does not work, and at one point the middle column said that I had not given Virtual DJ permission to access the hard drive’s files.

If anyone knows what the problem is or how to fix this, please let me know. I’m quite confused as to why it still isn’t working.

(Assuming the drive is formatted in a a format that is readable by MacOS) Did you allow the external drive to be connected?

This is a safety feature introduced in later MacOS releases (USB peripherals are blocked on connect and it prompts you to allow it). Read how to grant the access here (TL;DR it should be allowable under Privacy & Security):

Given all of this is good, VDJ should see the drive - it should be listed under Local Music (and granting VirtualDJ Full Disk Access should be enough to get it accessible, try a logout/login or restart to see if that helps with the permissins registering).

My Mac is a 2012 and doesn’t ask for permission from USB connected devices. Even then, there was no setting in my Privacy & Safety that allows access to accessories.

I believe I’ve identified the problem as being insufficient RAM. If I select one of the folders under Local Music -> Volumes -> Hard Drive then I have to wait a while before the app can process everything in the Database Search. The hard drive file contains A LOT of music, so it’s likely just overloading my PC’s capabilities.

Glad to hear it's resolved. I think the Database index/search itself is independent of the actual external disk file system and files, so maybe the database.xml for that drive is very large or the amount of available RAM is very low 🍺
