Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Ok I have been a vj for about 7 years now. for the best performance on my vj cpu useing composite station is avi with a cinapack codec and a key frame every frame. it has instant respoce on fast hard drives. So now that i incorperating sound into the video I'm not sure if that is the right choice?

hardmanmusic,

Where do you plan to view your VDJ videos? If you will use RCA or S-Video output you could use MPEG-1 in 320x240, 1800 kbps speed rate for video, 224kbps 44KHz 16 bits for audio. (You will get a 3:44 min video in 55MB).

If you plan to use a VGA output to your projector, then use VOB or MPEG-2 in 720x480, 7200 kbps speed rate for video, 224kbps 44kHz 16 bits for audio. (The size of the same 3:44 min video is now in 215MB).

You could use DivX6 in HIGH DEF (DVD like) and get a 5:56 min video in only 49.5MB.

The fastest way to rip your DVD is with smart ripper v 2.41 in VOB format which have DVD quality.

Good Luck!

By the way, VOB files are MPEG-2 files (Video: 720x480, 7200 or 8000 kbps speed rate, Audio: 224 kbps 48KHz 16 bits) which is the standard DVD format also. In MPEG-1 you could edit the audio source to get a full 320Kbps in the Audio side (with an external source, like a MP3 for example), and could set your config to have 720x480, 9000Kbps speed rate to get a high quality video too. That's not possible if you choose MPEG-2 video (as far as I know).

Some DVD have poor quality, this kind of resolution is worthless in that case. Try another resolution there if you wish.

i was really amazed to be using de videomixer on my laptop.
i didn't expect that good performance on a p4 mobile 1.7ghz processor with only 512 mb ram.

so i scooped some videos from the net and gave it a spin. i noticed that avi (divx) cause some serious cpu-stress, while mpg gives some little cpu-stress.

i also noticed that when you use differend codecs across (divxmpg) vdj locks up and crashes :(
i want to do some more testing with differend formats and codecs just to see what works best on my laptop.

i would like to know what your experiences are and measure your cpu-stress with the taskmanager (also while loading/playing)

for now, i think mpg videos gives less cpu-stress than divx.

I Don't use 512MB to play videos... I have some problems in the past and now I'm using
1.5GB. I found that using 1GB in RAM is the recommended to play videos.

I use DivX6, is much better than other DivX codecs, maybe that makes a diference. The best format to play now in VDJ is MPEG (or VOB) with LPCM format and 44KHz in the audio section.

i did some more testing last night. my conclusion is that mpg really causes the least cpu-stress (mpg1 a liitle less than mpg2) compared to divx

i'm really happy with the video-feature :-D it adds another dimention to your show.
now.. i have to find videos.

have any ideas where to find videos?

I convert my video's to 3ivX .AVI files. I can send you some sample video's if you wish. Just PM or email me: Gaz@Mixmagic.co.uk
