The lead length is the amount (in time) of timecode which the software will read before starting playing your track, this makes it possible to scratch on the first beat. Generally 500 ms is enough and you probably wouldn't want to lower it. If for example you scratched (literally) the vinyl at the beginning by accident, or it's experienced a lot of wear, you may wish to increase the lead in time slightly.
