I'm confused as to what the differences are. FYI I'm using TCCD with DNS3500's and a U46DJ.

absolute: it will take care of position on the vinyl when you needle drop (and so cues if you use the option smartcue)
relative: it doesn't care about position on the vinyl
smart: absolute + it takes care of loops
relative: it doesn't care about position on the vinyl
smart: absolute + it takes care of loops
