Tópico: hello all..what do you think I should do?

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

ok heres the deal...i used to own a pair of mk5's and a pioneer 600..yeah nice stuff =)...that was about 3 years ago, and about that time i was thinking of getting serato/final scratch.... i had a couple milk crates of vinyl (house/trance/breaks etc), and had really no mp3s.....then one brilliant day i had the nerve to post the stuff on craigslist.org, and found a buyer here in the OC area...

now its 2007...i have a phat laptop (xps m1710) and a buttload of Mp3s that i downloaded from beat port and other sites from the past year...

so heres my dilema:

i recentley downloaded a trial version of VDJ, and i must admit this software is pretty cool... i just dont know if I should go get a pair of decks and a mixer again...or get one of these new midi controllers i see out on the market such as the vestax vc 100, or the m audio xponent, or the numark total controll....i am looking to play house parties and stuff, and if so maybe a club or two here and there just cause some of my friends play at some clubs...

i just want somethign that would be conisderd professional, and wouldn't be looked at as cheezy...and if that means getting some decks and a mixer agin to spin on...then so be it....

see thats the dilema i am in ... are these new controllers coming out the beggining of the end for vinyl and turntables as we know it...or are these new controllers just something else to play music on such as a CDJ...

as i see it...these controllers like the xponent (which is dog ugly) or the numark total control woudl take place of two turntables and a mixer......and use my laptop with music as the "record crate".. am i perceving this wrong?

the laptops like the record case yes

and the controler can act as a mixer and like 2 turntables

however you can use turntables and mixers

its a flexable format :)

Everyones situation is different of cource. But for me, I was never excited about moving items from one location to another to do a show. ( Drops, bumps, theft, forgeting wires or other items )... If I really wanted to I can park my vehicle, get my eqp walk into a show carrying everything I need to get the party started...

I can carry my amp, speakers, music collection = computer ( VDJ )... in one load, set up in less then 10 minutes and have people on the floor..

I may look funny carrying everything but it can be done..

So to answer your question ( I hope )... Whats more important, The music being mixed or the medium in which it's being played from.

Last weak when I was promoted to head DJ, I installed my CPU in the club so all I have to do is walk in, turn on, and do a system check... or course, I bring a back up laptop and cd case just as precausion.

Looking professional or sounding professional,,, I became head DJ due to my music knowledge, able to read the crowd, show up 1 -2 hours before my time. Lights on and I will rock the Heck out of the crowd leave them wanted more.

Use turntable if thats what you choose, but I prefer not to carry more than I have to and be able to put a song on and cued, begin the mix in less than 15 - 20 seconds depending on the song.

That's huge when you want to mix a handful of songs to end your set / BPM rating

It really matters what type of mixing you want to do. IMHO Turntables are still best if you like turntabilism stuff, although I've seen great stuff with CDJ's as well. You will find most mobile DJ's in this forum use some type of lightweight controller which makes perfect sense. Also, many House DJ's use controllers as well since beatmixing works perfectly with those, probably better then with TT's. Great thing is their are now many options.
