Ok,
we are considering using Virtual DJ in our club for dj'ing videos, however, we have played around with virtual dj and found that we cannot set the output of the video to the monitor port on the laptop.
We are using a 'plug and play' projector, which is plugged into the monitor port on the laptop. I can set the the laptop to have dual display, on the tft and the projector. But cannot get Virtual DJ to recognize that anything is plugged into the monitor port? any ideas, obviously this is a big factor as to whether or not we will purchase this software.
Thanks,

I don't alot about this, but I know that your connection to your Laptop via your monitor port has to be made before you boot up. Then once your Laptop is on it might recognize something.

afaik this feature is limited to the registered version..

Correct, the Direct Out to a Secondary Monitor is limited in the demo. You can only run it in Window mode.

Still not having any luck, The version I have tested is a registered version (just to a different club) and I cannot set the video output to anything other than 'window' on that either. Im thinking its something to do with my laptop. It has built in Intel Dual Cone display but I think that only allows me to have the same 'screen' just displayed on two different monitors, ie I cannot ask the laptop to display one thing on the attached tft and another different source on the projector.
Any ideas around this, drivers maybe? I can provide the Spec of the machine if needed,
Thanx for your help guys,

In order to complete your testing, try this. Right-click on your desktop to bring up display properties, then click the "settings" tab. You should see two monitors in the display area. With your external monitor plugged in and turned on, right-click on #2, then click "attached." Click on the desired resolution from the dropdown, then click the "extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" checkbox.
In VDJ, open "config" then click the "video" tab. In the drop down list, where it says "window," choose your video card.
Hope this helps, and I look forward to seeing you back as a registered user soon!

Couldnt help but notice thats an integrated graphics chipset and that will perform poorly when video mixing.

If you had the second monitor hooked up when you booted, it seems that you can only have one or the other, not both. That config should show two monitors.

The port on your laptop is probably just an external connection. It appears that the card is not dual output, based on your settings window. Check the documentation for the computer to confirm. If doing that leads you to believe that it IS dual, you will probably find out how to enable the feature there as well. It's worth a look...

Usually, theres a combination of keys you can use to enable the secondary monitor, or at least switch from the laptop's display to the second output.
For instance, I have to press a key labeled "Fn" (short for function) and the "F4" key at the same time, in order to flip through the different modes that my laptop supports.
From the screen grab you gave, I was able to dig up this information:
http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intel845g/
Intel's homepage for the graphics card thats on the machine.
And an interesting article in the FAQ section, entitled "How can I extend my Windows* desktop across multiple monitors?"
http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intel845g/sb/cs-009081.htm
Unfortunately, the link explains that multi-monitor applications of this graphics card, require a second, PCI based graphics card. Again, unfortunately, it's going to be highly unlikely that you will be able to obtain a PCI graphics card for a laptop, namely because.. well, last I checked, none exist. However, still try updating your drivers to the latest available from the links above, as there is a potential that with the laptop intergrated graphics chips & newest drivers, they have removed the limitation that stops you from using two monitors.
My suggestion to you is to find another laptop that Ho you can use for testing purposes, as this will most likely resolve any issues that you are having with your current setup.
Steve.

what type of laptop you using and does it support a docking station? many docking stations will give you added video outputs, you will still be working with the onboard video memory though so if it is lower grade card then you may still run into issues with video lag.
