Denon 3500's hand down out of the 2 players.....i say Poi....LOL!!!

The 3500 is better than the 5000 because the 5000 is belt driven. The 3500 has a direct drive motor. I know your question is about the Denons but have you seen the Pioneer cdjs ? The 1000s the MK1, 2 or the 3 play well with virtual dj and the scratching is better than the Denon 3500.

Yeah I have. The pios don't have the feature to play two tracks at once though on a single cd do they?

when you are dj ying with cd players, the features that the cd players have like effex, two songs at once or others things wont work with the software. you can use the hot start, but it would only be for that song song temporarly until you play a new track. You do everything with the software. The features of the cd players only matter if you wanna play music cds only and not virtual dj.

i say wait on the 5500 (the new one, when it comes out with cd tray)

If you cant wait 3500, the 5000 feels wierd to me, its belt driven and it spins at 45rpm if i remember correctly, also that double function you will hardly use... but make sure you model is recent (you can check if the firmware is .99 which is the lastest if i remember correctly... the older models tend to overheat and then loose pitch stableness, go to the denon dj forum you can read all about it..., also make sure yours has a serial number on the back, and is not some grey import!

I just got my 5500 go with that. The CD tray will be out very soon.

jimspinnin> what u pay for your 550? Hows the asio sound card? I have 2 3500's but thought about picking up one of the 5500' just to play with it.

Thank you all for the advice. [sry if this is going off topic. I made a previous thread about this but no one helped me]

The reason I wanted to buy a cd deck is because my current setup just involves vdj pro, hercules mk2, and a 3 channel ext. mixer. I enjoy mixing 2 decks, but I feel like I'm being held back because I want a 3rd deck dedicated to beat loops and instrumentals n such so I have more creativity when mixing. So I was thinking if I bought a 3rd deck that never went through the software, just played through the 3rd channel of the mixer, then it would all work. Or am I not thinking right?

Sounds like a good plan to me. You also have a back up right there. Continue your research, to determine which player you want. Don't rush into anything, because you will come here crying about the player you should have got. Don't worry, as soon as you buy one, another one will come out anyway. You can not win.

I will get it this week. I paid $849 and that included shipping. I can let you know my opinion next weekend, that is why I made sure I could return it if I want. Just in case.

Thanks for the quick reply. So I'm just using the mk2 soundcard... I don't need to get like a maya44 for the cd deck that goes into the 3rd channel do I? I always get confused with the inputs and outputs. So pretty much what I'm asking is... if I buy a cd deck and plug it into the inputs of the 3rd channel of my mixer, it will play fine through the main output correct?

Correct.

ddrmjs> Not sure what your plans in the future are for virtual dj, however that new dennon 5500 has built in ASIO sound, this will allow you to get low latency usally around 1ms which allows you do do scratching smoothly, and also high end sound quality. The other thing with the 5500 is that one deck can actually be used as 2. Just the click of a button on the 5500 from what I have seen. I have the 3500 and they work great. However the 5500 are totally Midi, so you can do everything off the computer, and when doing gigs such as weddings and such, you can fall back to using a cd if your computer would crash.
This is something that I recommend to everyone thats getting payed for professional gigs. I see so many times djs just show up with computer and dont have any backup. However good luck on your choice but I have had the Dennon 3500s for almost 3 years and no problems.

Yeah definitely. I am definitely considering the 5500... just not now. Financially, the 3500 is just a better choice for me right now at $600 plus I'm still learning as a DJ so I don't want to make the huge jump yet. Next year when I have money though I can definitely see myself purchasing the 5500.
