Alright, so I'm in search of the ideal set up for running virtual DJ. Any opinions and ideas are much appreciated.
So...
1) MAC or PC
2) What external sound card USB or Firewire... model? (Using timecoded CD)
3) Mixer... Looking for a mixer that can map MIDI or somehow have it set up in such a way that the mixer faders also control the video fader in VDJ.
4) CD Players... (Looking into the Denon DN-HS5500 .. any other suggestions)
Thanks,
Jon S

1. mac imo, best investment you will make
2. buy virtual vinyl - all connections, good sound card, cds, etc
3. midi 2 channel mixer? or 4? pioneer, allen heath, rane, korg and or eckler... check skratchworx.com for reviews
4. the denon is good, but i think it has too many feature to ever be practically used. and its better for cd mixing, not comp. mixing... that said, cant go wrong with pioneer cdjs, or numark cdx/gemini cdt-05s for cd turntables

1. PC Because as Virtual DJ develops it will probably require a larger share of system resources and PC's are typically easier and cheaper to upgrade. You would hate to spend another $1000 to buy a new Mac when the hardware is outdated in 2 years. Also, some developers are working on 64 bit updates for Vista which usually makes a huge boost in performance.
2. Virtual Vinyl. With VV you won't even need to bother with CD players. You've got timecoded vinyl to control your mix and you don't have to buy a $1500 mixer to mix videos like you would with Rane's Serato.
3. Allen and Heath and Rane are very nice. I just like the sound out of these mixers better than Pioneer.
4. With the setup as listed above, you probably won't need a cdj but I recommend picking up a set of Pioneer CDJ 1000's or you can go with Numarks iCDX which is used as a computer controller, works with iPOD's and plays DVD's. If you're thinking about going with a timecoded product (which I strongly recommend) then you may not need 2 expensive CDJ's like the 1000's. I would personally go with the iCDX if you've thinking about setting up something like Virtual Vinyl.

Alright thank you for those suggestions,
I guess to try to clarify things, I'm a mobile disk jockey, going to use VDJ for Video and Music, looking to use time coded CD, would like my mixer to control other aspects in the program as well (like the crossfade/fade for video)
1) MAC or PC? Granted the PC's are the easiest to upgrade they also tend to have more stability problems, but they are cheaper. I'm looking for a machine solely for DJ-ing no other application, but that will deliver top performance without errors or crashing.
2) Which external soundcard and USB or Firewire?
3) Mixer? looking for 2 - 4 Channel, great quality, pioneer, Ecler are on my list of choices wandering about any others that may also be mapped.
4) CD Players, I currently use CDJ-200's, but I'm looking for ones with more features (ie; scratch) the Denon DN-HS5500 catches my attention for the multifunction aspect (D-sync if i use a harddrive, MIDI, as a midi controler, Device - CD drive for playing cd) but I'm open to hearing other suggestions :D
Thanks,
Jon S

I've seen your questions asked and answered on this forum numerous times - meaning they're all searchable.
No offense jrshap, but nothing will ever replace your personal research on all the points you mention vs. being spoon-fed answers. This is mostly because many of the answers are subjective and come down to user preference.
Just click and paste each of your points in the "Search this forum" space and do your homework (e.g., mappable mixer, best sound card, PC or MAC, etc)
If you have a question that you're unable to search and find on this forum, ask it without reserve - many of us will be glad to help answer it and it will probably help other DJ's too.
PS: One thing is for SURE, your ideal set-up would benefit from a full paid version of VDJ to avoid all sorts of problems.
PEACE
