Tópico: Need advice on buying a crossover please.

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

Hi there, Im asking for help and advice to replace my old Ashly's XR1001 xovers.

I had a Behringer UltraCurve PRO DEQ2496 that has RTA and autoeq that I loved and it was very easy to use, but as most of Behringer gear, starts to failing with time of use. Same thing happend with one of my two xovers Ashly.

Months ago I decided to go for a Rane AC 24 for a price around 800 (I liked the delays for my horn drivers)... then decided to wait and save a little more to get a driverack 260 (I liked the delays, RTA and EQ), and now I can save a little more to go for the BSS (delays, better review of sound quality but it lacks of autoEq), but, It will worth the extra money? Should I go for the 260?

I will appeciate any experience/review & comparison of your own, as well advice to chose any of these units.

Rane AC 24

The BSS FDS-336T MINIDRIVE

or the DBX DriveRack 260

THANKS!

PS, I dont wanna another Ashly or the DR-PA. I need 3 way stereo output.

I would go with the BSS unit if you can afford it. A true pro quality speaker system controler without all the garbage. Use this unit and you will learn to use your ears instead of short cuts.

Thanks... I can get the dbx for 1000 dlls, and the BSS for 1200 dlls, so maybe I could pick the BSS.

Anyone have an A/B comparison of these units?

Thanks!

If your going to invest this much money... go pro, get the BSS. In this price range, the BSS is my favorite processor. I encourage you to look at the forums at:

Search and ask around here and you should get a more informed answer.

Thanks for the link dude!, I will give it a look.

RicardoM, what kind of speakers are you using?
It' s always good to use a signal processor that has specific factory settings for the particular speakers that you use.

I have custom enclosures with DAS speakers, all powered with Crest Audio CA's series.

This is one side, dual 18" low pass at 80hz, a 15" for mids, 2khz high pass and a K-10 4" highdriver with 1.5 troath

Ric,

Nice looking rig you got there!

Thanks! :D
It sounds pretty good, but lifting that amp's case it is a torture, specially in upstairs venues with no elevator. Anyway it worth the extra job.

RicardoM, this are two audio controller links I found that are suitable to your crossover needs:

Check out the link below for the price!

Good luck!

I use a Dynacord PA system mind you the sigal processor I bought Is $1700 In the US

Let me guess, are you from a Latin American country or are you from Spain?

I already have seen the DAS DSP-26, but I havent read a comparison review yet, anyway it is a very good option too. Thanks!

Im from Mexico, at 3 hours from the line border, many gear it is cheaper in the USA even with the travel and import costs. But DAS is very cheap here, thats why it is so popular in Latin America.

Nooo joke! I envy you!!! I have heard the Cobra system a couple of years ago and Im still amazed with the sound. I have heard only positive reviews of the mobile PA systems. The price of dynacord here it is incredible expensive, almost twice than the USA.

Not so fast Ricardo, The Dynacord mobile system I own Is not as expensive as you may think. I own the Dynacord D-lite 2000 system encompassing two D12 tops passive and one sub 115 which Is passive.

The Dynacord Cobra PA system Is the ultimate.

Again, as you may see It Is not an expensive as you initially thought.

I am glad to know that you are from Mexico, I am from Haiti currently living In NY.

Ricardo, as I mentioned somewhere above you almost can' t go wrong using the same brand name Audio signal processor with the same brand name speakers that you own

Thanks dydy, I agree with you. But Im not only DJ, I rent my PA to bands too, and there are sometimes that bands have speakers but not amps. And as Im getting old, I really thinking in goin lighther in speakers weight, so theres a chance that next year I sell the speakers to own new ones.
