Hi
Just wondered if any VDJ fans have tried the Novation Nocturn controller. It looks promising and there has been some interest on other forums

I have not tried it but it does look promising for a video crossfader plus some other functions. $149 at Guitar Center here in the US.

Got one yesterday. I thoroughly recommend it - great value at 69 quid (UKP). Build quality is excellent and it's really easy to set up, in fact midi has never been this straightforward, essentially it uses an application (light) which you have to load with VDJ to map the midi but it means you get as many controls as you like - the basic 17 controls can be reassigned a page at a time, I've got 4 pages on the go at the moment so I can do a lot more than I could with my old X-Session (Evolution). In fact the Automap software window can be resized to fit over the mixer part of VDJ so I've got a pretty good temporary skin to play with (I'll be sorting my custom skin out next week). I used it last night at work and after(!) and found it pretty easy to use once I remembered which pages I put the controls on. If you are after small and light but solid equipment (I use a laptop and a Numark DJIO) then this is a pretty good choice. Love it!

dont know this controller but have you got the latest drivers installed for the unit if so.
go to your mapping section.use the dropdown box to see if your controller is there.
just beside where it says simple mapper click on the book square and select which midi your device is the rescan for your controller.
when you see yours in the dropdown just push a button and map away

At first, sorry for my english, I´m austrian!
I got it working in Ableton Live 8 with that instruction http://nckn.de/2009/08/tutorial-automap-in-ableton-live-with-novation-nocturn/
follow the instruction to step 4 and then open VDJ.
got to config. then go to mapper. check the dropdown bar. In my mapping configuration there is "keyboard" at first and then "simple midi wrapper".
If there´s just the "keyboard" press the button to the right of the dropdown bar, and choose "search for devices again" (i think it´s called something like that, because in german it´s called "Erneut nach Geräten suchen")
if you´ve selected "small midi wrapper" the first key should be "MIDI_CLOCK" and the action should be "off".
When you´ve checked all these things, you can start to map your nocturn in VDJ. press "Key-Learn" in VDJ and select the button on your nocturn you want to map, then press "action-learn" in VDJ and select the function on your VDJ skin or search for a function.
HINT: To change between A/B you´ll have to map one button to the function "deck active select".
Hope I was able to help you....and my english was not too bad.
grz
PS: I don´t even think that you´ll have to follow these steps on the page. But try to get your settings like in number 1.

Hi guys,
A bit of topic but im in need of some help! I'm currently using virtual dj and a numark total control mixer with a pioneer efx 500 unit along with my numark dj io soundcard. Whenever i record i cannot record the effects of the efx500 but only the numark mixer effects, do i need any extra leads/soundcards or is it a simple config setting that needs to be changed?
Will appreciate any help :) Thanks.
