I just moved a bunch of videos and mp3's from my laptop to external hd's. All of the files were labeled in the file tags-artist, title, bpm, genre. but when I reopened vdj the bpm and genre was erased from almost everything that I moved over. does this happen everytime you move it, or am I doing something to screw it up?

Did you copy the .xml data when you moved the files? If you copy/paste the .xml database you should see all of your saved information....

as far as i'm aware yes, unless you move your xml file or a copy of it to the new h/drive (may work), we've been trying for a while now and we think it's gonna happen in a future update whereby what ever you write in your browser window will be automatically written to your files id tags, which means in future you won't have this problem...

No it shouldn't, I download everything or rip everything to a old Laptop, then I convert, rename and tag (if I have to) using Tag&rename ( I suggest getting this tagging program). Run the tracks though MP3Gain. Finally I scan for BPM on VirtualDJ which I have installed on my old laptop, just to get the BPM and Key saved in the Tag info.
I then, transfer the files to my External hard drive. Then go to my gig laptop and see if everything is OK and then file then in the right folders.

I did copy all of the data. The odd thing was is that it kept all title artist info that i put in for all the dvd's i ripped but erased all the other info for about 75% of the tracks that I transfered. Mainly the .vob files. The rest came out fine. Thanks for the help, I'll tinker with it on an old external and see if I can figure out what the hell i did.

If you want to keep all Virtual DJ related information like BPM, Key, ..., you should copy/move your files in Virtual DJ (i.e. using Virtual DJ's copy/move functions)
