yea, DJ Nutz has quite a kit there, but that is beyond what I'm looking for. It would be cool to get my hands on that for a few hours though.

What about one of these?

that is way out of my budget... lol
very cool, nice find

Hello, Paul from ProDJpc here,

Wanted to respond to the really exciting conversation that has been going on here. I have combined a few comments of my own to help answer some of the unanswered questions in these posts.

1) We have come up with a new price listing on our web site. The configurator we were using proved to be harder to keep update than we first planned, so our systems, at times, looked higher priced than they actually were. You should check our present page at http://www.prodjpc.com/ProDJpcProducts.php

You all may be interested to know that all the systems, including a pretty hefty video system are in the sub-$3,000 range and the last 3 systems we have custom speced for audio only jocks have been sub-$2,500.

2) As far as the touchscreens go, there are actually several technologies out there and we have tested them all. No one technology is the best for every situation. We have 1 that we recommend 90% of the time and 2 others that we split the other 10% with, based on the particular needs of the client. The developers of the ProDJpc are working DJs with the exact same needs and demands as you all and trust us, we are picky as heck. Let me say that our touchscreens are nothing like the touch-resistive ones you will see at Point Of Sale terminals, restaurant and bars, or overlay kits you get to make monitors “touch sensitive”, or even the nice high end tablets you get from the big name folks. I have one and it is a different technology; optimal for writing and doing Office type work on, but not set up for what we, as DJs, do. Once you try the technology we employ you will strongly consider throwing whatever device you presently prescribe to out the window of the tallest building in town or maybe, more intelligently, eBaying it to some other poor person that has not joined the future of digital DJing. And yes, we are very confident in that statement.

3) We are able to create our own skins that work with our touchscreen systems well. It is true that other skins are hard to operate on touchscreen, because they were not developed specifically for that purpose. We should have a sample of our first touchscreen based skin up on our web site soon. Once you see it, you’ll understand what we mean by a whole new concept in mixing.

4) DJ Nutz was a client that wanted a custom solution developed around our ProDJpc ALLn1. We developed the hardware, and he developed the skin to work across 3 touchscreens and it is awesome. For those of you who wonder about the latency, there simply is no noticeable latency with these touchscreens. When you touch them, something happens, when you move something, it moves, when you think you have done something, you have. With that said, I do not recommend these systems to hard core scratchers, because I just don’t think you can get the feel that the heavy platter of a 1200 provides from the touchscreen we provide, no matter how large or latency free. But, for everyone one else, depending on your initial skill and understanding of VirtualDJ, I would estimate you will see a huge difference in your creativity, productivity and sheer coolness within several hours of beginning to use the product. And just a glimpse in the future, we are presently working on something that will provide more performance room, be more flexible and will cost significantly less that the Nutz system and not a heck of a lot more than our present system.

5) Hats off to Discobrain for making a portable system with a touch screen. Our first prototypes looked a little like this and we know where he is, because we have been there ourselves. Ask some of the people we presented it to at the Mobile Beat East Coast meeting in the Summer of 2006. They can tell you what it looked like.

The fact of the matter is, you can build things yourself, but you need to have some basic capabilities in knowing what components to combine, how to build a stable platform on those components with your OS and software, and how to physically customize all the mechanical parts within the enclosure to make a very good solution for yourself. We have that knowledge and combine that with creating form factors that meet the actual needs of the professional DJ, one of which is having a case around their computer so they can move it and mount it like a real piece of sound equipment.

If you ARE a computer expert, we invite you to look at our ProDJpc ALLn1 Do-it-yourself kit. We can provide you with everything you need up to the computer components to do-it-yourself. You won’t benefit from ProDJpc’s knowledge and expertise in the computer building arena, but you don’t need it, that’s why it’s a do-it-yourself kit. Right?

If you are somewhere in between and just want a touchscreen, you can get the same thing that we use in the ProDJpc ALLn1 with just the touchscreen and the bezel. BTW, you can’t get just an 8U bezel anywhere. The standard is 9U, don’t ask us why, but it is. That is just one of the things we have developed that make this more suited to the DJ industry.

6) As we are continuously trying to improve our value proposition to our potential clients we try to listen with open ears to messages from boards like this AND we place a very high priority on what our customers have to say. Most of our clients have been digital DJs for a while and realize that this system incorporates many things that they have spent a considerable amount of money and time on in the past. The computer, media storage, sound card, (for those that use external sound cards) controller(s), monitor, keyboard, and all the components it takes to hold all of this equipment for transport and performance are incorporated into an 8U X 5.5” 23# unit that typically takes up less space, weighs less, is dollar for dollar significantly more powerful and upgradable than any laptop on the market and costs around or a little bit below all of the components we describe here combined.

What we hear from those that choose to work with us is that the value is high and the actual price is a relatively good proposition. It is the service we provide and the way we design products and systems that look out for their long term investment, instead of looking short term AT their wallet. But those are only the people that choose to work with us.

We’d invite you to converse with us directly if you have any questions on the value that ProDJpc provides. We really do enjoy learning how to make even better products and services for the DJ market.

Thanks,

Paul from ProDJpc
