I think that was the first evolutionary step in the development of man's funnybone, and it was still a very misunderstood appendage at that point. Maybe that's why the second oldest joke didn't come around for 500 years.
At least it points out, as historians have pondered for centuries, that the ancient Sumarians did in fact experience flatulence.
