Hi! So this is my first post. A couple months ago, I bought the Hercules DJ Console Mk2. It came with a copy of Virtual DJ Console if I am not mistaken about the name. Using this software, when i went into my sound setup, under sound card, it said ASIO. Just today i updated and bought the Virtual DJ Pro and when i connect my Mk2, all it says is, Hercules DJ Console Mk2. After connecting and playing around with the new software, I realized that my loop button on the Console does not work anymore (which is not a huge problem) and I cannot use the EQ with the music playing in my head phones. After doing a search, I think i found a remedy for this, but within the next couple days, I am planning on getting a new mixer. I plan on getting the Numark Dxm06 and using the Hercules sound card to connect it to VDJ.

Questions:

1) Will I be able to use an external mixer with the setup described above. I.e: Hercules connected via usb to the laptop, output from the Hercules to the Numark, connect speakers to the Numark? (Using VDJ Pro) Or am i going to have problems?

2) Will I be able to use the EQ with the headphones using the Numark?

3) I don't know why, but i feel most of the quality comes down to the sound card. I mainly want a new mixer for (i) the effects (ii) easier to control than the Hercules (iii) better quality. So will buying a new mixer really improve the sound quality at all?

4) Is there a mixer similar to the DXM06, for the same price, that you would recommend over the DXM06. I am mainly mixing trance,techno and house.

Answers to these questions will be greatly appreciated.

Hercules RMX now down to around £250 in the UK has sound cards and is midi enabled, anywhere else in the world it is considerably cheaper, in the US it was £175 ($300)

I am actually looking for a stand alone mixer. Once I get some money, I'm going to buy two CD decks. But for now, I'm going to need to connect the mixer to the PC, using the Mk2.
 
The MK2 can be used in "external mixer mode" but the sound quality itself is only as good as the sound card that you use. An external mixer alone will not be an improvement on the sound quality. However, the quality of the MK2 is sufficient for the average gig.

Consider this...The beauty of digital DJing is that it essentially eliminates the need for CD players because the software gives you better control over the music than all but the best of them (and mixers, too)...Just a little food for thought ;)
 
Thanks for the reply. So the quality is infact only as good as the card. I assumed so, but I am not complaining about the quality of the Mk2. Its not world class, but it does a decent job. I am only DJ-ing as a hobby and do not plan on doing it professionally. But that could change. I will add that I absolutely love Virtual DJ. I started using it about a year and a half ago and am ashamed to say it was a cracked copy. I have now got my own copy, and can get support from you guys who are doing a great job. So keep it up. I did get my EQ to work with the headphones and a few people on other forums have assured me that I will be able to connect an external mixer to my existing setup.

One last question. Have any of you had experience with the USB Maya 44? A DJ recommended that over the Mk2 Hercules as a sound card. Is there a big difference between the two?

Yes I have a Maya and I had a mk2 (I have a RMX aswell) and you can tell the difference between 2. I use my Maya for my TCV's, which I use on my Friday night gig.

I can get the latency down to 8ms (that's fine or me), before I start pushing my system, my old mk2 I was stuggling to get under 20ms, it's the same with the RMX aswell.

If you are planning to use timecodes, then go with the Maya.


 
Thanks for the reply. I will not be using timecodes and so far my setup is running fine. I have yet to run into a major problem. I think i will stick with the mk2 for now as i like having the jog wheels. I am mainly mixing, so my requirements are not very high.
 
The Maya is a very popular card amongst digital DJs because of its portability, ease of use, inputs / ouputs, and quality of sound for the price. BTW, so glad to see that you are with us as a registered user, and I hope you enjoy VDJ :^D
 
I have a Question I upgraded the motherboard on a pc and when we tested it with 4.2 it worked fine then we upgraded to version 5.1 it wont work it loads the mp3 but when you hit the play botton it acts like its playing but we get no action on the virtual turntable but the play botton is on and if i try to x out of the program it asks if i want to stop playing and exit has anyone had this happen to them , I have all the dx 9 updates and wmp 9 am i missing something
 
Well, since you have been around since November of 06 I would say your missing a license. Please support the software, and its development, buy purchasing a licensed pro version. Hope too see you as a Pro user soon....
 
the owner of the computer has a lisence but i can't log on using his name I am just a computer hardware person tring to solve his problem and he didn't give me his password to the account on this board i am just tring to fix his problem can you help me i work for the man that this issue is happening to ok
 
Don't shoot the messenger I am a not a software Pirate just someone that was told to do his job without the tools he needs the owner of the software is golden productions look it up please just trying to do my job..
