Please somebody help me.

My previous gForce 7950+ died last weekend!!
(it cost me £200, but was worth every penny until it brought my PC down)

Now i have the gForce 8600 GT.

However, i have an issue with 'freezing' video.

for example, the 1st video plays perfectly then when you fade into the next video, video 2 freezes when video 1 stops.
then video 2 continues when you load the next video to the first deck.

this was happening before when i bought this card, so back then, rather than fix this issue (7months ago) i just needed to get a new cooler for the old graphics card.

no the old card has died, i install the 8600 and there is this video freeze again.

ive searched through this forum, but its not come up with anything helpful.

the 2 main things searching brings me is:
1. downgrade to Vista.
2. find another Graphics card.

this heep of graphics card cost me £120 at the time, so i would have thought it should be up to the job.

My old work laptop has an ATI 9000 and that could do video perfectly (but try to explain to my boss if Beer should get spilt on the work laptop)

Somebody please help as i have a gig every friday and saturday, and i need the video to be working.

dude..try to download the latest nVidia drivers.
I have a nVidia 8600GS 512MB Pci EX, and works perfectly. running XP SP2 x64.

Also try to have codecs or download DIVX2K in order to play codecs videos...try just in case to install VLC !

VLC - check.
latest drivers - check.
DIVX2k ??? - i use VOB, H.264, and SVCD formats.

the previous card played video perfectly.

but if i need codecs, whats recomended? cause i didnt need them last weekend. lol

Did this card ever do video without freezing? Could the card be defective? Do you have the latest Direct X, installed? A very simple question, is everything seated tightly?

I have an 8600gt with 256mg ram on board and 2gig computer ram with an AMD xp64 dual core 4200+ and I get video freezing (I also have an identical setup with a 9600 gtoc with 512mg ram on another computer and have the same problem). I know another Dj in town running the turion x2 dual core with a 8400gt mobile on his laptop and he has the same problem (sometimes his even freezes when video crossfading).

My freezing is just for a second or 2 when a new video is being loaded (especially if I have a cue point set more than about 10 seconds into the song). I also get the same freezing when I try to loop on a video where the loop points are 10 seconds or more in to the video. I will also get freezing when I load smashvidz extended versions and some other long dance tracks.

I have ALWAYS had this problem no matter what upgrades i did to my system as far as video cards and ram (although it has gotten shorter with each upgrade). I just assumed it either had something to do with my motherboards (which have never been changed) or a problem with the combination of VDJ / NVIDIA / AMD as everyone I know that has intel core duos doesn't have this problem.

I use primarily mp4 H.264 with the FFDshow codec which lowered my freezing time considerable from divx (from about 5 seconds to 1-2 seconds). I have updated all my drivers, driect x, everthing as often as they come out but nothing happens....I have just learned to live with it as it is a very short freeze, and 70% of the time not on the external monitors only on my computer monitor.

let me see..

8600gt - check
2gig ram - check
amd 64 dual core 4200 cpu - check

maybe i should just get to the shop and get a different graphics card??

the rest of my PC is a Shuttle sn25p (mobo) with nvidia nforce 4 chip set, 2 gig of corsair expensive ram (not value ram)

the last option i do have is an nvidia 6200 graphics card, but it dosent have pure video. and everything looks grainy (even vobs)

This might be a Intreseting read for you mate, don't know if it can be related to your little issue.

I remembered reading it at the weekend.

What is the response time of your monitor?

the main thing to note:

the video was perfect with the old 'Calbre gf795+' graphics card.

when i setup the new one, it had the video freeze, and i even set up a fresh install of XP at the time, but that didnt help..

i think my best bet will be to go and get another card before the weekend!!

your best bet is to get another 7 series if you are using xp, also google 8600gt's defective for some interesting reading.

Don't have a clue....but it happens on both my gig monitor (lcd 1280x1024) and my home monitor (1600x1280) and also slightly on the external screens at all 4 bars I use it at and they very from brand new samsung flat screens to old 25" crt tv's

I know there was a bug in the 8600gt that would not recognize your monitor from time to time (happened to me one night playing in Vegas and it cost me a REALLLLLLLLY sweet gig for a weekly residency). I had the same problem with a 7300gt and a 7600gt.

I run xp, so did I waste $150 on the 8600gt and $200 on the 9600gt? If I switch to Vista should that clear up the problem or would I be better to go back and try the 7900gt....it isn't really noticible on most of my gigs because they are sports bars without much dancing, but my Friday gig and my trips to Vegas do require all beat mixing and club "smoothness".

hey, i remember now..

wasnt there something about TURBOCACHE when these cards first came out??

from my recollection, it tryes to allocate shared system memory as well as using its own memory.
the ides behind this is to probably speed up certain operations as it has some of its process in main ram.

but maybe as its switching data between main ram and its own ram, thats where we see the nasty video freezing.

maybe some motherboards dont fully support this idea?

or maybe the software drivers dont make use of this feature efficiently enough??

well i had a look around for another 79xx card, but most are becoming scearce..

so i found this...

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/139942/

it arrives tomorrow morning.

i'll let you all know if its any good.

infact, there should be a section on the forum where people can post their experiences with different hardware (not just DJ Contollers)

Hey guys I have talked up and down this forum about the video freeze issue and i always get a wide range of answers from "vdj fixed it with 5.1 " to "Its the card and your stuck" well i called Numark and told them about the bug and they ascted like they never heard about it, odd, with NVIDA cards being almost the "Industry standard" we should have had a fix by now! so i will ask again ......is it the card or the software? and if its a driver issue then i am still F***** because HP doesnt have any new drivers for the NViDA crads.

ok Rant over

Three letters for ya A T I

if this next nVidia card turns out to be another donut, then its gonna be A T I for me.

my freind has a similar card to the one im getting, but he has Vista.

@stretch101

Don't download laptop graphics drivers from your manufacturer, get them from somewhere like http://www.omegadrivers.net or mod your own. They're usually more upto date than the manufacturer available driver.

Also for all the people wanting to get ATI there are numerous threads on the forums where people with the new ATI cards (Nvidia too actually) who are using XP get green artefacts on the videos whilst using hardware acceleration. That's something to check actually, is hardware acceleration turned on and are you using Virtual DJ's internal decoders?

i get my nVidia drivers from nVidia.
the outgoing card is made by 'inno' i paid £120 for it. now its selling got about £25 :o

everything was working swimmingly until the gig last saturday night. (when the PC just switched off) (but thats another story)

maybe the nv 8xxx series and above are designed 'just' for vista?

I was wondering the same about vista....I just did an instore demo (Frys Electronics was niice enough to allow me to install VDJ and a couple videos on several laptops to test it our)....by the way I did remember to uninstall them all!

EVERY laptop I played with worked swimmingly (mind you all I did was experiment with video loading and beatmixing/crossfading/looping and setting to cue points well into the video as that is when I have my freeze problem). The machines I tried all had a 2.0 (or better) core 2 duo, 3 gigs ram (pc5300), 667mz front side buss, 250 hd (5400rpm) and Vista Home 32bit. I tried an Intel GMA x3100 video card, an 8400gt mobile and a 9200gs mobile....all three laptops were under $1000 and all performed my basic Video Dj tests flawlessly.

It would seem to me based on the specs of my computer, other VDJ users I personally know that do video and my store test that the (3) key factors to great video performance are 2.0 or faster core 2 duo, Windows Vista and something nobody mentions the front side bus with the pc5300 memory (667 mz) or faster. It seems like if these three remain constant it doesn't really matter what video card you use!

By the way, the best performaer I tested for under $1000 was a Toshiba L305-S5883 T5750....$749 + $129 for 2 year anything warranty with the above specs (with the GMA X3100 video) plus a dual layer dvd, wireless internet, built in webcam, card slot, usb 2.0 and other minor niceties)

I'm gonna wait to see if it is on sale over the weekend and then I think I will finally pull the trigger on a laptop
