Tópico: My Observations Re: VDJ Radio

Este tópico es antiguo y puede contener información incorrecta para la nueva versión.

I have been observing VDJ Radio for a few days, and again (i've brought this up before), i felt like it was never live do to the fact that it said "non-stop music" most of the times i tuned in. I was just looking at the weekly schedule and concluded the following...

[ Day ]--------[Available Slots]---[% available slots]

Friday ----- 3 ------ 12.5%
Saturday ----- 6 ----- 25.0%
Sunday ----- 12 ----- 50.0%
Monday ------ 22 ----- 91.6%
Tuesday ------ 16 ----- 66.7%
Wednesday ------ 21 ----- 87.5%
Thursday ------ 21 ----- 87.5%

Out of a total 168 available slots per week, 101 show up as "non-stop music" that is 60.1%.
Wich means 39.9% of the slots are taken.

My intention is to come up with some creative ideas to fill up these empty slots, I DONT MEAN TO BASH ANYONE!

Perhaps we are being a bit too picky in sorting out who goes on. 91% on mondays is brutal! or is it perhaps that nobody in the VDJ community is interested?
I can understand that we dont want butchers on live (i realize that through this service we are trying to promote and sell the product), but perhaps we can create a rating system where we let the listeter know how long this person has been a VDJ user, use a star system, award ribbons, anything....
Hopefully this will get the juices flowing and some creative ideas will surface.

i wouldn't want to go down a rating system as you suggest, those guys have already past a very stringent test to start with, and for any of them to be featured on vdj radio all ready shows the quality of professionalism and skill that they posses, i would surmise and i would agree with you of the gaps in a "live dj" shows one of two things, people cannot commit themselves to a particular time slot each week, or secondly the level of expertise does not come up to the standard which is required of vdj radio. myself, i would when tuning in rather listen to to a re run of someones show then listen to someone who is not up to the standard that i've been accustomed too.

I fully understand what you are saying. But my suggestion is, why not lower the bar a little, so what if the dj missed his cue by a beat, its part of being human. Perhaps we might find some commited people in the bunch that missed it by a hair.
My idea of the rating system is to let the listener know how much experience that dj has with VDJ, this way if there is a screw-up in the set the listener will know at what level that dj is at and knows what to expect.
All im saying it looks like there is very little interest in VDJ when the radio station is constantly playing recordings rather than showcasing the users of the program we are trying to promote and sell.
I disagree with you on the point that you'd rather listen to a very good recording rather than a "not quite there yet" type of dj, i'd rather listen to nerve-wracked dj trying to make his mark on the world stage with a little slip up here and there, thats just me.

your point is well understood and i agree with you about not so experienced guys being showcased on the radio, maybes set aside a day/timeslot where their skills can be aired, then have a listeners/peers vote as to who may be elevated on to vdj radio team. could be something for the powers that be to consider and may generate more interest in vdj radio.

I would love to be a dj for vj radio.. applied but never heard about it again
probably I did apply properly... who knows???

Certainly would be different... since hardly anyone plays reggae on vdj radio

I like that idea of voting, there are many others floating around out there that would generate a lot of traffic to radio website and at the same time promote this product.
Im not sure how things are ran on the inside, but it is my understanding that the people responsible for making things happen do it for FREE.
Let us awknoledge that as we come up with a million suggestions on how to improve things, and complain that our requests to dj have not been heard (me included) as we give those people working for free, more work...

i did listen to it a few times way back when, but i do not listen to it anymore because i find there is too much master tempo used in the sound which makes the beats cut off and there is nothing that annoys me more when listening to music.

Rasza you say "Out of a total 168 available slots per week, 101 show up as "non-stop music" that is 60.1%.
Wich means 39.9% of the slots are taken." Where are you seeing these statistics? Do you mean in the upcoming days, weeks or months? Each day has less than 10% that is not "live". Some days it is 100%. So no I don't take it as bashing. While I don't agree with your ideas perhaps, the fact that someone is interested in the Radio is refreshing. ;)

How i got these statistics:
I was on the Radio website yesterday and was going through the weekly schedule, i counted the slots that were scheduled and subtracted that from 24 (the amount of hours in a day) wich gives me a daily average. Then i added all the taken slots and divided by 168 (the maximum available weekly slots if all the slots are 1 hour long 24 x 7 = 168).

I Realize that some people come in last minute, but some cancel las minute as well, so for the sake keeping it simple ill run with these numbers lol

you should go and studdy mathematic man!!!statistics are for politicians not for Dj`s lol

Internet radio is dead!

It's too hard to get a good portion of your friends/fans to tune in on a specific day and time. Pod casting is all the rage these days. You basically just upload mixes and they are there to download or listen to. At ones own leisure of course. If anything Virtual DJ needs an area where people can post their mixes/podcast. A user rating sytem could be easily done if this we're the case. I would like to know on a 1-10 how others thought my latest mix was. Then instead of having people perform live, the "creame de la creame" of uploaded mixes could be broadcasted. Which is basically what they are doing now. People would still check out the "radio" maybe even more, to find new artist.

So instead of saying hey check me out at (1. figure out your time zone) 11:00 a.m. on tuesday's-

ALL you have to say is....

check out all my mixes @

If no one is interested in it, whats the point? Actually a lot of people of interested in it, including myself. Maybe the station itself is just not that interesting. Not knocking any of the dj's, they are all great. I guess people just are not going to tune in everyday to the same stuff. Even though Discotronic got all scientific on us, his basic complaint was that the station is incosistant, and unable to deliver what it's saying. Again, no ones fault- I know for a fact that MADD and the rest of the guys work hard to keep the station going.

The internet is constantly evolving. Social networking is still fairly new. VDJ is the only dj software program that has a real online experience which comes with it. So, 2 kuddos for that, right? lol...

VDJ has also been very good at adapting to how dj's work and interface with their software, music and each other. Maybe it time for the radio station to evolve into more of the main hub. I say bring it to the forefront, and have it be already going in a widget or as the main log in area. The live mixing aspect, is not as important. I'm not saying cut it out completely, but maybe just certaint times or the weekends. Or even special guest performances(like by somebody famous).

The rest of it involving more of the podcasting aspect from my previous comment. It's a lot to ask for, I know...

But does it make sense?

@rusmokingtoo
You have completely derailed this thread away from the subject of getting on the radio you complain isn't consistant to your own private agenda by the looks like it.

You are tearing down something that other people want to get involved in a campaign of sorts with the last three uninterrupted posts.

Please be pro active and if you wish to make a point like this, create your own thread.

Any of the others here that want to get involved should contact Dj Norway to arrange spots.
Its only as good as you make it.

Myself, I'd like to see a normal rotation so everybody got a shot at it whether they are good or just learning.
But thats just me...

Lets keep this constructive please.

I can see where he is comming from with the podcast idea, however the whole point is to improve a service which is already up and running rather than branching off into another venture while another is just sitting there without reaching its full potential.
Furthermore, how many websites on the internet are providing podcast hosting already, to follow that route means more bandwidth, storage space, programming, design, etc... Lets use the manpower to come up with creative ideas to improve this wich we have.
I was thinking of showcasing (biography) a specific dj every week, perhaps having him/her on when there is least demand, by promoting this dj and their talent might get people interested in proving their talent in order to be on next weeks showcase.
Also having competitions, scratching, who can play more songs (without goofing up) in two minutes, etc. And creating rankings where one is the champion and the rest are challengers trying to knock hin/her off the throne.

Just some ideas i would like to see...

I can assure everyone of this. When I was involved with Radio, as a Teamer, and active in testing new DJs 95% of DJs tested passed. If they could not pass someone worked with them to get them up to par, or work on solving their technical issues. I have not been involved for several months but I doubt it has changed much. As Rick suggested Radio is Rune's (DJ in Norway) baby contact him with any concerns....
