O.K. I'm looking for opinions on the best (or just a really good) mixer to control VDJ. I use Timecode and i'm TIRED of using my mouse to load tracks and trigger samples and effects.
So....
What's out there that I can use? I tried Hercules RMX. Lets just say it did not work out for me all that well. I need a mixer that I can use to scroll through, select and load songs onto VDJ. If I can trigger samples and effects too...GREAT. If I can control all buttons like beatmatch, loop, etc, etc, ect, WONDERFUL
Oh... I'M NOT RICH. price "IS" an issue but don't let that stop you from giving your opinion on the best (or just very good) mixer.
Any suggestions?

Are you doing video, or just audio?
Whats your actual budget?
Do you need built-in microphone connectivity?
Personally I like my combination of Ecler Evo 5 and Denon HC-4500, I can control pretty much anything within Virtual DJ with that combo :)
You could look at utilising a controller alongside the timecodes, such as a DAC-3, DMC-2 or HC-4500 - this will give you sample/effect/loop control, and you can continue to use the timecode for actual deck control.
For ultimate flexibility though I reckon the Ecler Evo range, Korg Zero range or the Xone:3D/4D are among the best options.

I am doing music only. No video.
I don't have a specific budget. It will depend on the product and if I feel the pricetag is worth it.
I don't "have" to use the mouse, I can use keyboard shortcuts but I want to NOT have to touch the laptop besides turning it on, opening VDJ and turning it off.

Hey City....don't know if your into tricks and such..if not give the Total Control or RMX a solid look. They both allow you to scroll through your music files and load them from the controller. Also the TC allows you access to the samples and effects from it as well.....The RMX uses a fast scrolling feature which is very nice utilizing the jogs...and you can load the songs at the touch of a button from it as well. You can access some samples or effects using the mapper, or the RMX skin.

I use the Pioneer DJM 800. Midi mappable and I can use a combination of vdj and onboard effects which is great. I only wish it had a rotary knob so that I could use it to scroll through tracks. I've also used the cdj 400's which were excellent in selecting tracks and being midi mappable. I haven't played with it enough to recommend it's quality of performance tho.
Has anyone been able to see what the stanton range of controllers are like?

This is where the Ecler Evo 5 and Xone:3D/4D mixers really really shine IMHO :)

I will have to agree with SBDJ...I use the Ecler EVO 5 as well, and it is one awesome piece of equipment. The one nice thing about it is that it has built in asio so no cables going to an external soundcard, just plug in your speakers and firewire and good to do. If your looking for one i can get you one for 1800. us + shipping costs. I have had mine since January and no Problems.

Hi,
Is Ecler Evo 5 fully supported by VDJ ? Can you scroll through your tracks and load them without using the mouse ?
Thanks.

The Evo4 will work with VDJ fine, but I wouldn't say it's equally as good as the Evo5 as the 4 has a much simpler MIDI implementation.

The VCI-100 is a good midi only controller/mixer - it does all you want and more, but with this controller you'll still need to use a traditional mixer for the connectivity/output control etc.
If you're planning on replacing your mixer and you want some additional control then go with a dedicated mixer with midi, if you're happy with your current mixer but want additional control look at the VCI 100 or 300.

I guess if budget is a constraint, id say the TotalControl wud the best option! And all the people say "AMEN!"....
Mensajes Fri 13 Feb 09 @ 12:45 am
I agree if money is the problem go with TOTAL CONTROL with it you can control almost anything
samples, effects, bass, gain, loops, scroll trough music, etc.... u don't even need a mouse..
and its not that expensive...

I'm the opposite. Always use my mouse to load tracks and only use controller to adjust beats or to crossfade vid's. Everyone has some sort of OCD when it comes to DJ'ing-lol. Oh and monitor speaker always on my right or I'm screwwed-lol.
Denon 4500 is a great unit though.
