Hi, am sure you get this question asked all the time but.....
I DJ the old fashioned way, and looked into this a while back, without much success really, (and a mate who knew what he was doing....or not as the case was)
So simply all I want to know is what do I need to run virtual vinyl....I have turntables, and want to still use them, so do i need a soundcard and usb mixer or what...help please
many thanks,
Danny

Virtual Vinyl is a one stop piece of kit. It is an interface for utilizing either turn tables, or CD players.

You need a good stereo soundcard that has 2 stereo out, 2 stereo ins... and VDJ Pro and 2 timecode vinyls.
Numark Virtual Vinyl is a package that has all this (soundcard, VDJ Pro and vinyls)
or you can by the parts individually ;)

yes, as dj in norway said, Virtual Vinyl is a combo, so if you have it, you are set.
But as for me since i already had the Turntables and a mixer, i ordered 2 Timecoded Vinyls from VDJ, and went out and bought a Hercules Remix wich has a soundcard, and its a software controller at the same time.

If you have the TT's and Mixer then all you need is the VV package as you will get the soundcard as well as the Timecodes so no need for a controller.

you dont need a software controller, just an external sound card and Timecoded Vinyls.
But there are many controllers out there, Hercules RMX has VDJ as a native software, wich is basically plug and play, there are many many others, BCD 2000, BCD 3000, VCI 100, Hercules has a few you can use, its your choice and what you like really...

i didnt get a numark box with my software.
although someone said they used those cheap numark mixers (dm950) with serrato, but i dont know how that would work with them only being 2 channel...
so I really could use a list of soundcards

Timecode soundcards
USB card :
- Maya44 usb
- U46DJ
- Edirol UA-1000
and more
Firewire cards :

- Digidesign Digi 002 Rack
- Ego-Sys QuataFire 610
- Hercules 16/12 FW
- M-Audio FireWire 1814
- Terratec Phase 88 Rack FW
and more
PCI cards :
- Delta 44 & 66, Delta 1010LT & 1010
- Soundblater X-FI platinum or elite
- Mayy 44 PCI
- Maya 1010
- Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinium Pro
- Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro
- Echo Layla 3G
- Ego-Sys ESP1010
- Ego-Sys WaveTerminal 192M

PCMCIA cards

Generally speaking, almost any card that has two line ins in STEREO, and two line outs, will work, and if it has ASIO drivers its likely to work good (low latency drivers).
Those listed above are PRO cards, so some are damn expensive..
But get a card thats not the most expensive, but not the cheapest eather.
Soundblaster is a good solution on budget.
you need a card with asio and low latency generally speaking ;) and there are lots of them
There are also controllers with soundcard built in, such as Hercules RMX
And there are pro hardware mixers with midi and soundcard built in, such as Korg Zero4, Ecler mixers etc..
So there is a WIDE range of choices ;)
