How much do you want to spend, and what kind of party are you trying to rock?

i was thinking about just having the external mixer and have it hooked up to virtual dj for now and getting cdj's down the road.
is this a good mixer to have for this kind of thing?

Yeah, the mixer is solid. It will do what you need it to. My first mixer was a Numark DXM-09. It was nice and worked well with VDJ. I had a Hercules MK2 hooked up to it and I emulated the two wheels as turntables and used the Numark for eq's.
