Hi

Got a pair of ICDXs on order.

Having checked all the reviews out there (of which there aren't many) i decided to purchase. However all of these reviews were made just prior or just after general release of the unit. There have since been a number of firmware updates for the unit.

My question to all ICDX owners is are there any noteable updates to the units (via firmware) that are worth mentioning and would change the complexion of those old reviews ive read?

Also, i've ordered a pair. I know i could of just ordered just one and still used it with VDJ, do you guys have a pair or singles?

I know Terry aka TearEmUp, has a pair, and what I can gather, they go well with VirtualDJ. Why don't you PM him.

I played on a pair a few months ago, as stand alone units with no DJ software involved and they preformed very well. Very well in deed.

There is a recent firmware update to increase performance slightly and to support Gen 6 ipods

They are a high quality CD player or Mass storage player or HID Controller for VDJ / CUE and are quite popular with users.

Hey Buddy,

I have been using dual ICDX's and VDJ since September. From my reading the firmware upgrades are just to help with the new ipods docking issues. For some reason they only docked with gen4 ipods.

Let me find my posts on my thoughts of the everything....
If your're in the states and want to chat let me know, I'll pm you my number or we can MSN chat

Here's my first thread on them.

And here are my MAIN issues with the ICDX's

** When they are hooked up to CUE/VDJ the jog wheel doesn't act the same anymore. The Jog wheel changes from a pitch bend (cd use) to a "nudge" (Computer use). This really pissed me off since I use the jog wheel to mix.

** The biggest issue with the ICDx's and VDJ is there's a software issue with the two. It will (very) randomly freeze VDJ up on you. The song that is playing on your speakers will finish, but the entire program freezes with NO ERROR CODE. The fix..... close program and reopen it...

Here's my topic on the issue above

I have been using my two iCDXs for a year this month..and my complaints are exactly zero. I have mine set up in a coffin with a DXM01usb mixer and my lappy and an ext HD. Works like a charm....admittedly I am looking at other USB midi players but I own a multi op mobile service and am always upgrading and improving. So, if I one day start talking about another manufacturer do not worry...lol..I still own and really enjoy my iCDX set up.

The iCDX is a great addition to any VirtualDJ/Cue setup. I have used 2 and just 1 and never had issues. I got mine with the original firmware and have upgraded them with each update. Just like the XP10s and other controllers where people have not had any issues you don't hear much about them. You will find them a great addition to your setup. As for TearEmUp's comments, I know his rig is built around the iCDXs and uses them religiously so you have great feedback there.

My background in DJing has always involved VDJ, right from when it first came out. (quite a few years now)

I've only ever used Herc Mk1 , mk2 and most recently the Numark Total Control as controllers.

I feel the ICDX will be a great leap foward in professionalism for me (As far as the control interface is concerned).

I've been drooling over them ever since they were announced (back in 2006). DJ-in-Norway was drooling with me i remember but i don't think he ever got a pair?
Their versatility is the key for me. Native support in VDJ, ability to play from CDs, MP3 CDs, Mp3 DVDs, Flash drives, Hard drives, Ipods...
Also they act as a hardware backup should any computer problems occur.

Lastly they look damn sexy too (IMO)

I think i speak for all us when i say "I can't wait to get my hands on a pair!"

Note to Jeremy G: - I'm not disregarding your comments, i am slightly apprehensive which is only natural when seeing people expressing their problems. There are people here stating how deligfhted they are also, i hope i fall into that category, if not i'll be here on the forum venting :)

The way i see it is, that just about every controller supported by VDJ has users which can't get it to work as they should. This is the one major drawback to DJIng from a computer, there are so many variables, hardware, software configuaration. Literally billions of permutations of how a system can be setup. This can and will lead to users experiencing problems which are not their fault. This ofcourse doesn't make it any less frustrating for the end user though!

I hope you get yours working as they do for others.

I hope you are well pleased with them, when you get them.

Can you let us Know if you encounter any problems with them, I don't think you will though.

Thanks Jimmy B, i'll let ya know how i get on.

Looking forward to all the little blue lights, you just can't beat blue lights!

Only Exception: The Red light on Kit from Knightrider :)

I bet you will enjoy two iCDX on your setup.
I also have two iCDX primarilly for wedding reception and they never failed me.
No problem what so ever.

However, I upgraded the firmware to v45 recently but it still shows v44 on the players after upgrade.
the new firmware upgrade only update support for iCDX to read files on the new iPod Nano, Shuffle and Classic
and I don't use these functions so I just ignored it.

The iCDX has a button to switch decks in VDJ, which reduces the need to have dual controllers. I personally only run one of them anyway. With hotkeys setup for the keyboard, I can get the job done (in my opinion anyway). Its a real easy setup and runs great. My only complaint is sometimes I lose it when it goes to sleep and it doesnt completely wake up and interface back with VDJ so I have to just cycle power on the controller and it comes back.

Back when I was working out the bugs on my Vista system, i would probably have to reboot or reload my program (used to use Swift elite 4)once or twice a night and if its in the middle of the show, dead air is bad news. If i saw a problem was going to happen, i would just fire up a song on the iCDX and run it as a stand alone player while I got my system back up and running again. I switched to VDJ from Swift Elite a while ago because its much more stable on Vista. I'm happy to report that the only issues I ever have with my system now are during initial setup, if ever and those problems are because my video card has to start with the svideo plugged into a TV and not the splitter box at a few of my shows. Its always good to have a backup to fill in if there is ever a possibility of dead air, the iCDX does a great job, especially if you fill a DVD full of music and just leave it in the drive.

I'm glad the updates were all for ipods, i dont have to worry about it then. Because well.. im not a fan of apple and would never buy one :)

Does anybody here use two iCDX's with the total control in a case? Just want to know what case would be good for this set up.

I own a Total Control and two iCDXs but never use them in tandem..its a waste...the TC does just fine by itself..and so does the iCDX.

No, the DMX01USB mixer only has built in soundcards for direct use. It is not a MIDI mixer.

Currently i use the x-session... midi controller ... with fader... all midi mappable
what about the pioneer 800 midi mixer (think all knobs etc. are mappable... and is a real mixer
any idea on the cost of pioneer 800 midi mixer......

Just received my pair of ICDXs yesterday.

Played with just one for about 10 mins. (Not connected to VDJ, just using a CD)

Initial impressions

The whole unit is a little smaller than i was expecting, which is no bad thing as i'm running out of space for all this equipment!
The platter has a better tactile response then i was expecting, had seen a few people slating it on the web, so my expectations were lower than they should of been. The platter is quite stiff, but i hear they always break in after some use.

The unit looks damn sexy, especially with the lights down. Although im gonna need to protect these babies, they look as if they'd scratch up easy.

Generally happy with the build quality, all feels solid. Faders maybe have a wobble to them, but only slight. The screen is excellent and clear.

Bit suprised it's impossible to backspin with them, Would be handy if they also had a no-pressure needed scratch mode by utilising the out rim.

Yet to use with them VDJ, but planning to devote the whole of Saturday to playing with myself...sorry.. by myself. :)

I am running dual iCDX's with a UREI 1601 mixer and VDJ 5, and Audio 8 DJ sound card and just love the set up
No problems at all
Peace

its very solid, but agreed that it does scratch VERY easily

once broken in, it isnt IMPOSSIBLE to backspin, but it aint gonna last long, but you do get the sound

btw Kosmo, you like the 1601? i realllllly wanna buy one, but i cant find them in the us anymore
