I've got an opportunity to get a VMS4 at a bargain price (full warranty, flight case, etc). I've never played with one of these controllers. I've done my research and they look like a decent unit. My question is to all the VMS4 users out there: Is your VMS4 what you expected it to be? And what controller did you put aside to use the VMS4?
Any and all feedback is appreciated.
Thanx in advance.

Hello, to all, i put aside the same vms4 controller, and replaced from my old best rmx. Main reasons? Very, and a mean, very low volume output, on the others channels. Very good looking controller, but for me, is the only thing good about it. But this is just my experience. I got tired of trying to find out the best possible way to fix the problems. Good luck with yours. Many more here are just happy with this controller.
Please excuse me my poor english.
Merry Christmas to all.

I would avoid personally as there are issues with mic distortion, low output volume and build quality.

Controller interface is amazing... Very responsive and accurate... Unfortunately the soundcard and other components do let it down.
Maybe this is why it's been offered to you soooo cheap ;-)

I'm sorry to all that inversted in this item, however after having owned an American DJ item in the past i have to say that i wouldn't touch there gear ever again. Hence i didn't buy one

Thing was I owned a Q-SD mixer which was the nuts. Had it flightcased with my RMX which I used in external mixer mode. I thought the VMS4 would be the same as the above just with a smaller footprint.
I knew there wa sa problem when AA admitted on their forum that the VMS4 was a controller first and mixer second and that the AA mixer developers/team were not involved with the project.
I will restate that as a controller, the VMS4 is fantastic. The controller interface is well laid out and isvery very responsive.
Cheers,
Roy

I agree Roy, the controller part is *perfect* for VDJ.
If you were willing to use another soundcard and were not bothered about mic inputs it would work great as a controller alone, but that defeats the purpose of the all in one unit a bit .....
It's a shame AA still haven't resolved the outstanding issues. They are sending out mic converters which go some way to solving one of the problems however the low master output is still not addressed and it's a bit of a lottery regarding the build quality.

Agreed, Great controler! But... Mic is horrible, balanced output way too low. AA has been dragging their feet or at least taking their sweet time with a fix for these problems. I would not recomend this unit to anyone unless it was a "new production unit" with the bugs worked out.

Seriously, why are you giving this outfit the benifit of the doubt by thinking there even going to sort this? that's it I'm affraid, what you got is what you get.
Best thing about AA is that bird that demos the gear!

Personally I like this controller alot . Alot of Djs think that , you can just pull this out of the box and everything will work to the way you want it to. Think of it this way , once you receive your unit , It's like a baby being born , it does not know anything , you need to teach it , so it will learn . If you are experienced , then you can create your own mappers to teach your unit to the the way you want it to act, or you can go and download a mapper that someone else has already done for you , which you can find here on virtual dj , just go to the controller section to download the mapper . I have only ran into a couple of problems , one which you all know is the Mic output , where it distorts, well they have come up with a solution , just plug in a line macthing transformer , and it solves the problem. Next issue I had was VTS File, i cannot get any audio if Im playing this type of file , Just so you know a VTS File is the codec in a DVD . I even tried playing it on Media Player , no sound if I have my VMS4 plugged in . So Solution for now is to convert the VTS File to a mpg , I have recently heard they are working on this problem . Next problem , is some of you are getting crackling noise sound coming out of your speakers , Most computers that are running into this problem have AMD prosessors , If you are having this issue , you half to download a USB Filter Driver . If you cannot find one , I believe the third party drivers work . Also if you are looking on purchasing a VMS4 it's reccomended that you do have a fast computer , don't forget to check specs to find out what computer you will need to run the VMS4. Since I Purchased this unit , yes their has been some issues but , i'm glad to say American Audio is working fast to resolve these issues . I still highly reccomemnd this unit .
For now i'm giving this unit a 7.5 out of 10 , atleast until they resolve the rest of the issues .

Most of these issues were recognized around 3 months ago . That's not working very fast to me!

Using that analogy, you would then expect that when it gets ill the doctors would make it their top priority to find a cure for its illnesses. As Kieth has said, 3 months isn't quick. My baby would be in intensive care and definately not coming out to gigs with me!!!

lol your right it is taking along time , but they say it will be fixed , So I'll half to trust that they will . Atleast its doing everything I need it to do for now . If I need the VTS File then I can use my Numark DJ IO sound card , just plug this in to the anolog section in the vms4 and use this until they fix it .

A line matching transformer?? Are you saying the problem with mic distortion is because the mic input is at line levels?

That is awesome feedback! AA is apparently sending out mic adapters to fix the mic problems for the time being. The audio card problem is apparently corrected by a firmware upgrade. Am I wrong?
The deal is not off the back of a truck or anything, it is from a reputable dealer with full warranty, etc. I was looking to add this to my line-up as a second set of equipment or for "contained situations" where I may not have alot of room to set-up.
Thank you all for your feedback. That's what makes this community rock!

Hi everyone, Well I put aside a mixtrack and numark total control. The problem with the ouput to me is not a big deal. I never use a mic conected to any dj mixer and I never plug my speakers directly, beacuse of the distortion. You can switch the eq mode on the VMS4 to external, so you can use a mixer ( I 'm using a mackie mixer that works really nice) so you can boost your output sound and have a nice mic line without any distortion. I really like the VMS4 because i mapped it in order to use four decks. using the pitch bend buttons. The set up process takes a bit but it is worth it.

I loved the way the controller is laid out and I liked the way it felt.
I do not like the built in sound card, I would hear a low level hum, I even took it down to ADJ headquarters and their tech support people verified the problem.
I started using it with a Native Instruments Audio 2 sound card in MIDI mode but I encountered another problem, the mixer knobs were not good in MIDI mode, I would have to turn the knobs 1/4 of the way before VDJ showed it was responding.
I give it a 4 out of a 10....it could be close to a 10 if ADJ fixed the issues.
Before I got the VMS4 I had an xponent but I sold it and got me the VMS4 and I regretted it, lucky for me I found a sucker who would trade me his xponent for my VMS4.
